<div> It has been two years since we posted a family update. The time has flown! Happily, except for the maladies facing the world-at-large, 2007 and 2008 were busy and good years for the Singer family.  This year, we are getting our letter out early so we don't lose our tradition of updating our friends and relatives.</div> <div> <IMG SRC="53186c50.jpg" border=0 width="134" height="197" ALIGN="LEFT" HSPACE="10" VSPACE="0">Jessica is turning 19 this month. She is a freshman at Union College in Schenectady, New York (near Albany).<IMG SRC="551e2b20.jpg" border=0 width="226" height="178" ALIGN="RIGHT" HSPACE="10" VSPACE="10">Jess is still working through several big adjustments including living away from home and giving up gymnastics; her passion for the past thirteen years.  Because Union does not offer gymnastics, Jess tried crew during the fall trimester. Beginning next week, she will switch to track & field for the winter and spring terms. She plans to compete pole vault (which she started training for this past summer) as well as (maybe) the triple jump.  </div> <div> Beyond the change in her sport, Jess has been thinking hard about her future.  She has discovered that her passion for nutrition and fitness training may develop as both an academic and a potential professional pursuit.  Accordingly, she is now exploring her options both at Union and at a short list of other schools for next year. Her plan is to pursue a nutrition major as an undergrad and a combined nutrition and fitness training major in graduate school .  We're very proud of her. We have loved having her home over the past six week Winter break and we will miss her terribly when she returns to school this weekend.</div> <div>  </div> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <IMG SRC="523e95c0.jpg" border=0 width="233" height="348" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="10" VSPACE="0"><IMG SRC="541d35e0.jpg" border=0 width="467" height="350" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="10" VSPACE="0"><IMG SRC="54408600.jpg" border=0 width="264" height="352" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="10" VSPACE="0"></div> <bR> <div> <IMG SRC="53f7fb60.jpg" border=0 width="127" height="182" ALIGN="LEFT" HSPACE="10" VSPACE="0">Hannah, our “baby”, is sixteen and a high school junior.   She received her driver's license this past Tuesday and is now driving off on her own as often as she can negotiate with her sister the use of the third car.  She is  busy with diving practice, SAT classes, driving school classes (which are, thankfully, over now) and a pretty heavy course load at school.  She is doing well at all of it and in working as hard as she did this past semester, she has developed maturity and discipline in her studies and her sport.  <A HREF="id92.htm" TARGET="_top" TITLE="Hannahs Diving Article"><U>Follow this link to an article that ran in the local community newspaper about Hannah and her accomplishments during her high school diving season.</U></A><A HREF="id92.htm" TARGET="_top" TITLE="Hannahs Diving Article"><U> </U></A></div> <div> Next semester we will begin the college search process with Hannah.   She just took the PSAT and is now studying for the dreaded college  boards. She is interested in going to a challenging academic institution with a very strong diving program.  Here we go again . . .</div> <div> Susan is finishing the second year of her two-year term as President of our Synagogue.  It is no surprise to those who have known her in her previous careers (as student, Jewish communal worker and mom) that she has excelled as President.  The congregation is thriving: (1) the synagogue has grown to just about  three hundred member families; (2) there is a strong and stable professional staff in place; (3) There is a <I>very</I> strong sense of involvement among the members; and, (4) the leadership is skilled, talented and committed.  Her family is extremely proud of her and of her accomplishments.  The results (almost) warrant the incredible demands this “job” has put on her (and us) over the past two years.</div> <div> In spite of her full-time (unpaid) presidential responsibilities, Susan continued (until this past Tuesday) to chauffeur Hannah to the multiple places she needs to be (often starting at 5:00 a m). She helped Jessie navigate the complex world of college admissions and continues to support Gary in all of his endeavors.  She is a great role model for the whole family.</div> <div> Gary left Interbrand at the end of last January; almost a year ago.  After being offered several very cool “real jobs” with established companies, he opted to go the entrepreneurial route.  He formed his own consulting firm, Redline Results, and he has had an amazing year helping several very large companies solve very interesting challenges.  Redline Results helps clients define their distinctive value proposition so as to drive growth and profits.   Gary is working harder than ever but loves the work, the freedom and the opportunity to spend a bit more time in New Canaan.</div> <div> In addition to Redline Results, Gary is also working with Martin Lindstrom, author of <I>Buyology: Truth and Lies About Why We Buy</I> (one of the best selling and most influential business books published in 2008). Gary and Martin are partnered with a team of outstanding experienced marketers in forming a start-up called BUYOLOGY INC. BUYOLOGY INC is focused on helping clients rigorously measure and manage non-conscious decision making.  Why only start up one business when you can simultaneously start up two? It has been a hectic and exciting year! </div> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <IMG SRC="5473ffa0.jpg" border=0 width="319" height="250" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="5" VSPACE="0"><IMG SRC="54850fc0.jpg" border=0 width="336" height="252" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="5" VSPACE="0"><IMG SRC="54950fc0.jpg" border=0 width="336" height="252" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="5" VSPACE="0"></div> <bR> <div> Our extended family continues to be well and remains very close.  We just came back from celebrating New Year's with all of them (the Singer AND Olshansky clans) in Boston.  All are in good health and have been able to spend lots of quality time together throughout the past year.</div> <div> And that's our wish for you;  a happy, healthy and prosperous 2009 filled with friends, family and the things that make you smile.
