| Sabrehagan is a black, Scanran Elkhound. He is the faithful companion of Alex and is often seen at the inn by her side. Sabrehagan is an unsociable hound at the best time. He absolutely detests children, other dogs, strangers and all manner of small creatures. He will often attempt to catch smaller animals in order to eat them as he has a voracious appetite. He particularly detests undines and will kill them on sight. Sabrehagan stands over three foot at the shoulder and weighs around 150 pounds. Sabrehagan's main role is as a dog of war but he is also a fine hunter. He is a tough, efficient, killing machine. He is trained to pull a rider from his horse and kill them as quickly as possible. Aside from his distinctive black coat (the dog in the picture is actually what is considered 'black' in the wolfhound world) and white tip on his chin, Sabrehagan also sports a huge, spiked collar. The collar is usually seen on dogs that hunt wolves as the spikes make it impossible for an opponent to injure the throat, but it is also effective against domestic dogs. (Please note, I based Sabrehagan on the Original Irish Wolfhounds. These dogs were bigger, faster and more vicious than today's variety. It was said that on the battlefield they were worth three men. Hunters of the Irish Elk, these dogs were monsterous specimens who could reach up to four foot at the shoulder and weigh 200 pounds. Sadly this great dog is now extinct, and the animal that has filled it's place is a poor substitute.) |
