| Most people know that for 4 years I Irish Danced. Most people don't relize all the rules that come along with it. When you start out you learn the basic like the 4's and 7's and the Reel. Each teacher has thier own unique dance steps. For an example my Irish Danceing teachers name was Sean Culkin. He was certified in Dublin. He has a stage in his basement were he makes up all of his school dances. Irish Dancers wear three kinds of shoes for boys and girls. Both use the tradtional hard shoes. The heal and toe areas are raised for a distictive sound. The hard shoe's price ranges between $110.00 - $ 200.00. Girls also use gilies ( around $50.00) and boys use a soft shoe very similar to jazz shoes. Each dance has a name and you preform most steps with your right foot then your left foot. They also go in sections. Like the Beginners Jig. You have a lead around, side step, first step, second step, third step, fourth step, fifth step, and finish. A big part of Irish Danceing is competeing. Compation is know as a Feis. When competing you have to wear a tradtional dress. If you are a level one it is apropriate to wear a black shirt, white shirt, and shawl (colors are determined by your school). The Sean Culkin dress uses his colors and his symbol. The price for the dress is $315.00. You must also wear the poodle socks. They are special white socks that you wear pulled up and they won't ever slip down. When competeing you are not allowed tofilm because they are worried that people might steal other schools danceing moves. Also when you switch teachers you are not allowed to compete for 6 months. When you are competeing you are judged on many things. Posture is the big one. Your feet must be turned out and they must be poined. Your back must be strait and your hands cuped hidden behind then back. You are not allowed to move your arms or points will be taken off. Also you have to smile or ponts are taken off. |
