Electro Pulse
Max is a cynical young woman who's only love in life seems to be her motorcycle (Ninja 650 - black). She seems to know her art history and claims to have "excelled in telecommunications" as a child. She tries to lead as normal a life as possible, though it is still very much her desire to reunite with her long lost siblings. Her biggest problem is her seizures, a side effect of her genetic engineering. She exbits some control over the situation with Typtophan. She was born in the year 2000 at Vivadyne Labs in Gillette, Wyoming as part of the experiment "Project Manticore" Her group was called X-5. She spent the first nine years of her life, along with her "siblings", as a part of the experiment. A lasting effect of Manticore is Max's distain for guns. After seeing "sister" Eva shot and killed by Lydecker (see she was permanently traumatized. She was one of 12 children from the X-5 group who escape on a winter night in 2009 a few months before "The Pulse". (The Pulse wiped out computer systems across the west coast and turned America into a third world country).
Hannah Sukova helped Max's escape. She found her on the road during the escape and hid her in her home. Max ran away from Hannah's home when Hannah was brought or questioning along with in with the other Manticore personnel. We know Max was in foster care at some point after this, because she was in an abusive home when the pulse hit. She ran away soon after the pulse. And later regretted leaving her foster sister, Lucy, in the hands of her abusive father. But the "Pulse" did help her situation, she found it easy to hide among the chaos.
By 2019 she was working as a bike messenger for Jam Pony X-Press. She shared an apartment with Kendra Maibaum. Her co-worker Theo (now deceased) and his family lived down hall (see
Her other Co-workers included Sketchy, Herbal Thought and, best friend Original Cindy She sometimes hangs out with these buddies at "Crash". We know about at least one ex-boyfriend, Darren, who cheated on her with a friend of hers (Justine). He was effectively blown off. In addition to her Jam Pony job, she was a burglar by night. Her night job as a thief allowed her to pay for her private investigator, Dan Vogelsang, who she'd hired to find the other X-5 Escapees and Hannah Sukova. Her "night job" eventually led her into the apartment of Logan Cale who she discovered was the cyber journalist "Eyes Only" (a program she was never quite as impressed with as her friend). She got away from him, but he tracked her down through her job. At first Max seemed impressed and flattered by his attention, but when she found out he just wanted to use her abilities in his "crusade" and had invaded her apartment to find out information, she wasn't as impressed. However, after Logan got shot, a child was kidnapped and her friend Theo died because of the actions of Edgar Sonrisa she found herself personally involved in bringing the guy down. Afterward, she was quite ready to wipe her hands of the situation. However, Logan baited her with information about her "brother" Zack. And they made the deal that she would help him if her helped her. And it was a good thing, because the head of Manticore, Donald Lydecker had caught wind of Vogulsang's search and turned him into his own personal snitch.
Since then a lot has happened to Max. Some regrettable things, like hooking up with a silly little guy named Eric while in heat. And some more memorable things, like finding Hannah. It was Hannah who fueled a new search for Max when she informed her about her surrogate mother. A young woman who fought so hard for her that she had to be drugged in the end. This altered Max's life perception significantly. Zack has also walked back into Max's life since. He killed Vogelsang to protect Max, but hoped to remain anonymous. However, with Logan's help Max put the pieces together. Zack revealed to her that he knew where all their "siblings" were, but wouldn't tell her for fear of endangering them.
As for Max and Logan, their original deal has breed a friendship between the two. They now have a habit of sharing dinner (though each denies a developing romantic relationship). Max also found herself drawn to a genetically engineered boy named Jude and the procedure that saved his life. Hoping to find a cure for her own condition, she attended the genetic cofference held by Jude's pysician, Dr. Tanaka. Max came face to face with Lydecker at this genetic conference and saved his (as well as Logan's) life. And still got away without him ever finding out who she was.
But her cover, as well as Zack's, was blown later when Brin was captured. At Max's insistence, Max and Zack made a rescue attempt that unfortunately included revealing themselves to their number one enemy, Lydecker. In the end Brin was so sick her only hope of survival was going back to Lydecker and Manticore. Zack split again after this last incident. Max tried to go back to her life after this, but Lydecker took over Seattle and printed up WANTED pictures of Max, pinning Vogulsang's murder on her. Unfortunatly, at the time Max was in a very bad part of town. And she found herself trapped when the cops matched he face to the one on the poster. She tried to call Logan, but without luck. Zack came through in the end and, but she still was forced to turn against him when Logan's condition took a turn for the worse. She made it to the hospital and gave blood to Logan, blood that saved his life, but the cops picked her up there. Zack came through again when he turned himself in as the murderer. Despite being happy about saving Logan's life, she was upset to see Zack possibly returning to Manticore. But on the news she later saw the helicopter had went down and she holds onto the hope that he survived.
