| Pulling Threads was co-founded by Phillip and Kimberlee Baumgarner during the summer of 1997 in Athens, Georgia. Using an improvisational rehearsal process, we created movement based on our dreams, journal entries and personal stories. This lead to three short pieces and our first public appearance as Pulling Threads, a performance collective. As the collective has progressed, our scope of material has expanded beyond personal experience; however, our process remains the same -- discussions, movement improvisations and a gradual resolution towards the product. In 1999, during the encore presentation of Ex Utero, Pulling Threads implemented the benefit performance program which donates all proceeds from a specified performance to a local charity. In 2000, Pulling Threads began the Pay-What-You-Can performance which provides cultural experiences for audiences who normally could not afford such opportunities. With community support, both programs have been successful. |
