Flatbottom
Now it is time for you to build the flatbottom. It is made of 2x4's and is basicly a rectangular structure that links the two quarterpipes together. You simply take a couple 2x4's and cut them to the length of the flatbottom you want. My flatbottom is 6' long, but 8' would be good too. I wouldn't go any shorter than 6' of flatbottom for a 3' tall ramp. For a 4' tall ramp I would try using 8' of flatbottom. So basicly just lay the 2x4's out the length of the flatbottom and space the 2x4" ribs 8" apart all along the structure just like in your quarterpipes...next screw them in and you're done....NOW ISN'T THIS EASY?!? Once again to make the flatbottom easier to transport I have made it into two 5' wide sections because my ramp is 10' wide.
Flatbottom is the middle section of the ramp that you skate between transitions. Having just enough flatbottom in your ramp allows you to set up for the next trick while keeping your speed up. I used 6' of flatbottom in my 3' tall ramp but you may use more with taller ramps.
NOTE: You will have to cut the 2x4's that go widthwise on the flatbottom a little shorter becasue each 2x4 used as a flatbottom "sidepiece" (as opposed the the quarterpipe sidepieces you cut out) is 1 1/2" on each side. This would be like the 3/4" plywood you have on each side of your sidepieces, but just a bit wider....hence you cut more off....
