- When is Pug Sunday in San
Francisco? What time do you gather?
Pug Sunday is the first Sunday of every month. Dogs (and caretakers) gather anywhere
from 2:15-3:00 p.m. and hang around for an hour or more. Most Pug Sundays seem to
break up around 4:00 p.m. or so.
- Where is Pug Sunday?
Pug Sunday takes place in Alta Plaza Park in San Francisco's Pacific Heights area.
Alta Plaza Park is along Jackson Street between Scott Street and Steiner Street.
The gathering itself is usually in the northwest corner of the park at Scott and
Jackson.
- How do I get to Alta Plaza
Park in San Francisco?
Since I don't know where you're coming from, and since this site is a non-profit labor of
love, I don't have directions from all the various bridges, highways, etc., around San
Francisco. Hey, you've got a computer and a modem (you're here, aren't you?) -- just
head over to MapBlast or MapQuest or even just Yahoo
and print out exactly the map you need.
- Do you have Pug breeder
information?
Nope. Sorry. But every so often, a breeder or two shows up at a Pug Sunday
gathering. It's certainly not a bad place to start your Pug networking....
- Can I bring our dog if he/she
isn't a pug?
Absolutely! All breeds, non-breeds, and mixes are welcome, so long as they know how
to behave themselves around Pugs!
- How many Pugs do you guys have?
Believe it or not, none. In addition to being rather modest, our current digs also
include three feline tenants each of whom is convinced they are the only non-human
occupant of the apartment (so is our landlord, for that matter. Convinced, that
is.). So we just haven't been able to make enough room for a Pug. But
someday.... Until then, we have to make do with heading over to Alta Plaza Park the
first Sunday of every month....
- Is there a Pug Sunday
gathering if the weather is bad?
Well, so far people and pugs have shown up in heavy fog, gloom, and even bone-chilling
winds. If it rains more than a mere drizzle, though, everyone seems to just stay
home (though there's been only one rain out in the last year). You just have to use
your judgment.
- Who started the whole Pug
Sunday thing? Can you help us start one in our town?
You know what? We have no idea who started the whole Pug Sunday thing in San
Francisco. We stumbled on to it about a year and a half ago and have been regulars
ever since! Hey, if you're reading this, and you started Pug Sunday, drop us a
line!!!
As for your home town, you'll just have to start Pug Sunday up on your own. But if
our experience is any indication, simple word of mouth will turn a random handful of pugs
into a formal double-digit pug gathering in mere months! Good luck!
- Why do you do the Pug Sunday
website?
(A) Because we're crazy. (B) Because we love Pugs! (C) Because it gets us
through the post-Pug Sunday letdown. (D) All of the above.
