Date: Thu Mar 10, 2005 6:31 am Subject: Gotta brag a bit Piper and I have started beginner obedience classes. Yesterday was week 2 and I spent most of my class with my chin on the floor...LOL This little girl definitely has a split personality. At home she is a robust 2 year old full of puppy surprises similar to her 2 legged counterparts of the same age, but at class....she is too perfect!! We had just finished the "ready" exercise...this is where the dog assumes the "sit" position and gives you their FULL attention in anticipation of the next command. The instructor was continuing on to explain our next exercise and I was listening, not paying any attention to Piper. After nearly 2 minutes [gotta be a month in dog time] the instructor burst out laughing! I thought I'd missed a joke, so just stood there. She then pointed to Piper and said.....now that's what I mean by getting your dog's devoted attention! I looked down at Piper and there she was, still in a sit with her little eyes riveted on me! Then Carol explained that she couldn't help but laugh as she's never seen a dog learn that so quickly and perfectly. The next exercise was "loose leash walking". Here the dog must walk with you without pulling on the leash. Piper was the only one to do this with the perfection of a pro. The other dogs are jumping and pulling, but little Piper [in spite of exuberant outbursts from other dogs] stayed right with me, the leash constantly slack. It took ages for Zukie and Jewel to do that! So now, my newest angel...is the star of her obedience class. She is loving the 1 on 1 attention and I'm beginning to see a big difference in this precious little girl. Lois~who just had to share |
