Her Story: Emerald l'Orange was born as a human, Christina Palmetto, in New Jersey. Her parents were killed in a car accident when she was seven, and, for the next three years, she was traded from foster home to foster home. She finally ran away at the age of ten to make it on her own, and eventually worked her way west to California.
While on the streets, she taught herself the skills she needed to survive. By the time she met up with the Mighty Ducks (at age 15), she had become quite a proficient pick-pocket, and was more than capable of defending herself against most any trouble that turned up.
For instance, she once gave a Knife a black eye and a broken nose (not to mention a falsetto voice for a week) when he hit on her while she was pick-pocketing at an Anaheim mall. (The Knives are one of the local gangs in Anaheim -- or at least they were, until they crossed paths with the ducks, who quickly put them out of commission)
Thorough a strange twist of fate, (Which included being caught stealing by none other than Duke himself) she came to get tangled up with the ducks and old Draggy face himself. Then factor in a mad scientist (these guys just keep popping up, don't they...?) and a sample of Duke's DNA, and she was turned into what she is now -- A duck named Emerald l'Orange. Duke helped her choose the new name, since she had decided her new life with the ducks warranted a new name.
It took some time for her to accept what had happened (not to mention to adjust to being a duck -- Imagine waking up with a beak and feathers one day: how would you eat? how would you care for feathers? how would you get a shirt on over a beak?), but with the team's support, she soon came to terms with her nightmare and learned to make the best of it.
Because it was Duke's DNA that was used to 'create' her, she considers him her father, and he considers her his daughter. Duke has sort of taken her under his wing (no pun intended...) and is teaching her everything he knows, including fencing and thieving skills, though she will only use those to fight evil -- for now anyway :-D.
Just under six months after becoming a duck, Emerald and Nosedive were caught off guard while spending the day at the mall, and kidnapped by Lord Dragaunus. (This story, which explains in more detail, should be finished pretty soon) The Saurian had planned to use the teens as leverage against the team. After over a week of being held prisoner (as well as tortured) by the Saurians, the Saurians forced a confrontation in an old warehouse (seems to be no end of these things in Anaheim, huh?), using the teens as bait. In the ensuing battle, Dragaunus badly gashed the left side of Emerald's face, robbing her of her site in one eye.
Tanya, with her endless talent, studied Duke's eyepatch and managed to recreate it for Emerald. Though at first she wasn't too fond of it ("It makes me look like some sort of bizarre pirate!"), she quickly grew to appreciate it. It did, after all, restore her sight.
Since this incident, her hatred for Dragaunus and, for that matter, the entire Saurian race, easily rivals that of the other ducks. On the postitive side, though it was a horrible incident, losing her eye served to bring her and her teamates closer together, and she really feels now that she fits in with them.
Emerald now works hard to learn everything she can about Puckworld and it's culture, and makes an effort to use Puckworld phrases and philosophies in place of the human ones she grew up with.
She plans to accompany the team when (if?) they return to Puckworld, but she is undecided as to what she will do when she arrives there. Will she follow Duke and join the Brotherhood of the Blade, in which case she may very well never see the rest of her new family again? Or will she let him go, losing thier close relationship, in order to maintain the relationships she holds with the rest of the team?
For, now, she tries not to think about these troubles, preferring to enjoy what she has at the present: a caring (though unusual) family -- something she hasn't had in far too long.
Hey, I'm still working on it. No, really. And don't be surprised if some of the little details change (I've already changed the age she was when she became an orphan, and where she was born), because, after all, I just created her and these things take some tweaking to get them just right
