| Matt Walsh was born in Darien, Illinois on October 13, 1965. He grew up in the Chicago area, and attended Northern Illinois University. While he was a student, he studied abroad in Austria during the 1984-'85 school year, and earned his Bachelor's degree a short time after. Matt then studied improvisation at Del Close's Improv Olympic and at Second City, both of which are located in Chicago. At Second City, he was a member of the Annoyance Theater and the Touring Company in 1994-'95. In 1990, Matt and some fellow improvisors founded The Upright Citizen's Brigade. Matt and the UCB moved to New York City in 1996. In 1998, the UCB performed at the US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, winning the Jury Prize for best sketch/alternative show. Comedy Central then gave the Brigade their own show on the network, which ran from 1998-2000. On the program, Matt served as a writer and played Trotter as well as various other characters. In 1999, Matt and his fellow improvisors opened the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. You can find Matt there often performing as well as teaching improv classes. Matt made his feature film debut in the film Road Trip, which was released in 2000. Matt's other credits include : various characters on Late Night with ConanO'Brien, the voice of Clarence in Escape From It's A Wonderful Life (1996), the role of Ted in Talent (1998), the role of man in baseball uniform in Fatty Drives the Bus (1999), co-wrote and co-stared in Martin & Orloff (2002), and Old School (2002). Matt also made a guest appearance in a 1999 episode of Comedy Central's Strangers With Candy. The only bit of information currently released about Matt's family is that he has a brother, Pat, who is also an actor and is part of UCB. |
