BEFORE THE WHITE MAN CAME
We danced upon the air like rain
Dark was our skin of generations
Ageless were our mighty songs
We drummed a rhythm of nature
And slept beneath the silver moon
Magic was our eyes back then
Once upon a time we were free

Wooden ships carried their bodies
The corpses of a thousand wars
With angry tongues they did attack
To lighten the hair of my people
And mock their songs with weak voices
Bewitched with their deep blue eyes
We slept in peace believing we were unbound
Too late did we see they danced upon our graves

BEFORE THE WHITE MAN CAME
Our power came from within
Their strength came from greed
They built houses on our liberty
And blinded us with their treachery
Through it all they hungered
Only white men live such lives
Our enemies we have become
