Description:

The New End Theatre was begun in 1974 by Buddy Dalton in a space originally set up as a mortuary in the late 1800's.  The New End presents both new plays and revivals and focuses on providing "unique creative opportunities it offers to actors, writers and directors".  Brian Daniels is the current artistic director.

Among the more notable productions at the theatre have been, the world premiere of "You Were So Sweet When You Were Little" by Jean Anouilh with Angela Pleasance, "The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs" with Susannah York, "A Village Wooing" by George Bernard Shaw with Judi Dench and Michael Williams and Cheek By Jowl’s production of "Othello" directed by Declan Donnellan.

The theatre also produced early works by Alan Bleasdale, David Edgar, Doug Lucie, Tom Kempinski, Terrence McNally, David Rabe and Sam Shepard.

Two plays produced at the New End have transferred to the West End.  These were "The Dead Monkey" with David Soul and "Personals"
