Description:

The Hen and Chickens is located just opposite (across a square) the Highbury/Islington Tube Station.  It is a fairly typical pub theatre with the theatre upstairs above the pub.  It reopened in 1998 after having been closed for a period of time.

The theatre is a pretty basic black box with seven or eight rows of seats directly in front of the playing space.  You can bring your drinks into the theatre (but ask for your drink in a plastic cup).  Because the theatre is located above a very busy street corner you sometimes hear street noise during the play (this can be particularly bothersome during a quite moment) but it is not too bad.

The pub and theatre also have regular comedy shows including some fairly well known comics (for example Eddie Izzard).

The pub is quite friendly and is closely aligned with the theatre (they ring a bell to let everyone know the box office is open or the play is about to begin).   The pub is packed on weekends and after/during Arsenal matches (the stadium is not to far away).

The Hen and Chickens seems to be more targeted at a younger audience and both the pub and many of the shows reflect this (including some transfers from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival).
