LONGFORD

The Market Arms
The door was hard to find, though after a few cans, that was to be expected. We walked in expecting to see the lads, except we saw oulfellas. Saloon type doors brought us into the lounge as we felt out of place in the bar. We ordered pints of Heiniken and Bulmers and drank quietly to keep in line with the atmosphere of the pub. It was 3.40 for a pint, in which I almost felt like stocking up with a 3 litre country spring bottle to bring home. I was feelign guilty when parting with my money. It was an alright pint decent head on it, not too much crap on the top. Colours were allowed, which was a plus, but the pub structure was made out akwardly so that large groups could not form together with ease. Also the atmosphere was more suited to the Jodi than a pub. The staff were friendly in bringing over our pints to us. The Crumlin lad who was with us was complaining the cider was a little dead.

The Anville

Situated down the road from the Market Arms on the Dublin Road beside a shop, it was akward to get into due to the construction work going on, but from 10 yards from the entrance we could head the singing going on, so this was nearly top marks in terms of atmosphere already. As soon as we got in, I noticed we were getting ripped off in the other place, to be charged 3.20 a pint for a pint of Heiniken, top notch. The other lads ordered vodka+black which was 2.50 which was good in itself, or so they said, I'm not a drinker of spirits but I did indulge in the large measurments the bar staff handed out. Club colours were grand, as was hanging flags and chanting as much as we wanted. Bar staff were friendly by asking us not to quieten down and for some bizzare unknown reason giving me a free pint. Top notch place I must admit.

Shannon Bar
Not really in Longford actually, but its just past the Strokestown Road. A few of the Ultras lads decided to make they're way from the Anville to meet up with the "alternative" coaches. The story of how they got there is one for another day :) The bar was sort of found by accident the first year Logford got to the Premier by the same few lads with a few hours to spend before the game. Nowadays it's the main spot for nearly all the Hoops to meet before a game. Very friendly staff who always have the sambos ready for as soon as we arrive at the door. Juke box down the end playing some good tunes, beside a decent pool table which seem to always have the same mobs around it. Added to that a good oul turf fire. Most of the boys were on the lager which was3.40 a pint. Highly reccomended for future visits.
