| Harp Lager |
| This week I shall be reviewing one of my old favourites, and now recently relegated to the side of the fridge - Harp Lager. My first fondness of the Dundalk Diesel came upon when my local stopped selling Dutch Gold, so I have to move onto a cheap alternative, and I came across this blue Fosters' like can. It was an established name, especially up on my days up North, seeing all the lads drinking bottles of the stuff on the terraces that I first heard of this. Anyway I have done many a taste test, and today infact I have done the official "can review" section of Pub Spy. After a brief altercation with the 'oul one for drinking at 12:30 in the afternoon, I set down with my pen and paper and began the tasting. One quick hiss and the first of 6 cans were to be drunk, or drank rather. They were freezing cold, and upon first entry of the alcoholic liquid into my mouth, I got this "ahhh" feeling. Pure bliss I must say. It went down very well as per usual, although one thing with Harp, it can be a little fizzy at times, but its' taste overcomes this minor dilemma. I was 7/8s' through the can, when I came to the end. This is where I started to get the pen out and disturb my bliss-ful drinking. Generally "ends" of cans are rather vile, but this I must say was EVIL. Definately this was pure diesel if you have ever tried to drink it. I then sank the rest of the soapy residue and then cracked open the second can while shuddering and shivvering at the sickening liquid flowing down my osophegous. The second can was similar, a nice rich clean taste, though I know for a fact the next morning it is pure chemicals. It has a nice harsh taste to it, but has to be served chilled. I had then after my 6th can, had a real taste for the stuff (after a 3 week absence of the Lager in question) I went to my room to see whether I would have any more lying around. To my amazment, I fould one sitting in my sock drawer. I then opened it..extermely warm etc.. ugh.. Anyway I would definately reccoment this to any lager drinker for an away trip, relatively cheap but at 4.2% it can take a fair few to get you in the state you want to be in. It can be found pretty much in any off-sales, which makes it a good companion to have on away trips, on in some cases in the stands at home matches.
