Georgia Street

Georgia Street, a fairly simple song to write, but an incredibly difficult song to sing.  Once again, my song comes with cheesiness, but again, it does have a lot of feeling put into it, and I hope a lot of truth as well.  I was indignant, yes, but I didn't want to hide the failures of the church, and I could only hope that this song and the event that lead to it can spark a change within the structure of our modern churches.
There are so many things which just can completely destroy the life of a church:  Pastors having affairs with other women besides his wife.  Corruption, deceit, false teachings.  One event which shook the foundation of our own church was the voting out of a member.  And after that, a church brawl, complete with fists and blood.  Yeah, it was pretty bad.
Voting- it's a joke.  What's worse is that it's not even funny.  I'm not sure of how other churches conduct their "business," but the way our church did didn't work at all.  I can view it as a complete and disgusting failure.  I realize that in many other places voting does work.  Our country is a democracy, and is built upon the wills of its citizens.  Corporations  run through the wishes of their owners, the stockholders.  But who said a church was to be run the same way?  When did we, "members" or people,  have the right to decide the fate of God's church, His bride?  Who are we to say that our will is God's will?  The only thing that I've seen voting produce is disharmony within the body of the church.  50/50, 80/20, 66/33, no matter what the fraction or the majority is, there is no unity.  It's one side versus the other.  Yes or no.  How can one side decide what is God's will, and the other decide God's will is something completely different?  How does majority make it right, and who made it right to vote someone out of a church?
I'm not even sure how it came to that point, to where the church came to a vote to officially kick someone out, but that's not even what is important.  Why would they even consider it in the first place?  Last time I checked, we were all brothers and sisters, all our bodies pumpin' the same pure blood of Jesus Christ.  I can't say in love to my brother that I don't want him in my family anymore, and I never would expect the Father to approve of it.  We, as Christians, can't continue to view the church as a corporation, where things can be worked out through "business meetings."  Things can, and should be worked out as a family, with love, support, and discipline.  And even if one person is causing mess within the church, we are still called to forgive, and not to harbor hatred within our hearts.
One more event came to top off the night- an all out brawl.  Maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit, but it's how it looked.  Grown men beating the crap out of another.  Five police vehicles and two ambulances.  What a good way to show the world how much love is flowing through the church.  I never read about Jesus Christ spreading love with a punch, and I don't think it can ever be done that way.  I'm sure you look at this and just think that most of what I'm trying to get at is just common sense, but apparently some people still don't get it.  I can only hope that other churches do get it before disaster strikes.  And I can only hope that our church hasn't put a permanent stain on the image of Jesus Christ and his church.
