Amazing Grace! How Sweet the Sound

Here is the song in its entirety:

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found.  Was blind, but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed!
Tho' many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come;
'Tis grace hath bro't me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me, His word me hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.
When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise than when we first begun.

They are beautiful words, and it's no wonder how the song remained so popular despite the fact that it has been around for nearly two centuries.  Sometimes I feel a little bad about "butchering" the song.  I'm afraid to think that the writer(s) of this song would feel ashamed by how we've treated it, but just something about playing it at shows makes it so powerful.  To hear everyone singing along to the words or seeing everyone dance or mosh as one is a powerful very thing.  When everyone can celebrate God's grace together, knowing that the other person dancing next to you is celebrating the same thing, bonds can be formed, and it's something so hard for Satan to break.  God's grace is a huge reason to celebrate, and God's grace is what can, and should unite us as one body.
