| DETACHABLE
REMOTE CONTROL HEAD |
The
optional YSK-8100 Remote Mounting Kit allows the front panel of the transceiver
to be mounted separately from the RF deck, thus allowing easy installation
even in very small cars. Audio is converted to very high-speed data (38.4
kbps) and sent via pulse width modulation, to provide crystal-clear reproduction
of your voice pattern without sensitivity to noise pickup along the remote
cable. The 6-meter-long remote cable includes gold plated connectors, for
may years of reliable operation. |
| TRUE
DUAL CHANNEL RECEIVE CAPABILITY |
Yaesu
pioneered the concept of dual-band equipment, with the FT-727R Hand-held
and the FT-2700R Mobile transceivers of the 1980's. The FT-8100R is the
crowning achievement in the proud tradition. Providing true dual-channel
operation, the FT-8100R may be used in a VHF+UHF, VHF+VHF, or UHF+UHF configuration,
with full crossband duplex and repeater capability. The use of independent
local oscillators combined with the powerful microprocessor circuitry allows
independent band or memory scanning on the two bands, along with synthesiser
steps optimised for each band. |
| UNMATCHED
DUAL-BAND OPERATING EASE |
| A Dual Band transceiver
shouldn't be twice as difficult to operate, yet many are. Yaesu's engineers
have answered this challenge using software design creativity to produce
operating techniques that are elegant in their simplicity. To change "transmit"
bands, just press the bands volume knob. To make quick frequency excursion
via 1 MHz or 10 MHz steps, press the MHz knob. And to select monoband operation,
just push the "F" key before you push the desired bands volume knob. There
are no confusing menu settings to complicate operation... just intuitive,
easy-to-remember keystrokes which utilise the power of microprocessor technology
to make operation effortless! |
*
DC Voltage Indication - In mobile installations, voltage related problems
are #1 source of trouble. If you suspect a cable is broken or making poor
contact with the battery, just push and hold in either volume control for
½ second. The voltage being received by the transceiver will be
displayed for a few seconds, after which the frequency display will return.
There's no need to connect a voltmeter - it's built into the radio. |
| * Easy-to-See LCD Display
- The amber Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) has been specially developed by
Yaesu's engineers to provide a wide viewing angle and excellent clarity
of displayed images. The also is an 8-step display dimmer, for those situations
where maximum display brightness is not required. |
| PROGRAMMABLE
MICROPHONE KEYS FOR MOBILE OPERATING SAFETY |
| Several front panel operations
may be replicated via three user-programmable keys on the microphone. Most
all of the front panel command functions are available for assignment to
one of the three programmable keys, and you can also choose "Voltage-Display"
and "Squelch Off" if you prefer. Additionally, the "ACC" key on the microphone
is assigned for the "Band Change" function at the factory. |
| ONE-TOUCH
BAND CHANGE AND COMMAND TRANSFER |
| During dual-band operation,
it's important to be able to change bands efficiently and avoid multiple
keystrokes. With the FT-8100R, a single push of the VHF or UHF Volume control
transfers all command functions to that register. The icon clearly indicates
which is the "Main" band, on which transmission takes place and where the
front panel commands are executed. |
| SPECIAL
PROTECTION FEATURES FOR MOBILE OPERATION |
Time-Out-Timer (TOT)
To prevent an accidental "locked mic"
condition from inconveniencing other amateurs, the FT-8100R includes a
programmable timer which you can set up to switch the transmitter off automatically
if the time limit (default: 3 minutes) is exceeded. You can set the TOT
limit to any value between 1 minute and 60 minutes.
Automatic Power-Off (APO)
Should you exit your vehicle without
turning the transceiver off, eventually it could possibly run your vehicles
battery down. But the FT-8100R's APO feature prevents this: it will automatically
turn your radio off after one hour of command key and/or transmitter inactivity.
You may extend the time before switch-off, in hourly increments, up to
a maximum of 12 hours. |
| CONVENIENCE
FEATURES FOR EVERYDAY OPERATION |
| * 1 MHz and/or 10 MHz
quick frequency steps. * Automatic muting of the sub-band during
transmission to avoid cross-talk. * Automatic Repeater Shift (ARS).
* Provision for automatic linking of VHF and UHF band VFO frequencies during
dial rotation. * CTCSS Encoder with 39 subaudible tones is built
in; FTS-22 Dual-band CTCSS Decoder is available as an option. * "Do-Re-Mi"
annunciator beep tones for front panel keystrokes. * Selective panel
and/or PTT lockout feature. * Six DTMF memories of up to 16 digits
each. |

ENHANCED SMART SEARCH™ IS IDEAL FOR THE TRAVELLER |
| The FT-8100R's Enhanced
Smart Search™ feature may be used to load--automatically, with no operator
intervention--a special bank of up to 50 memory channels per band based
on activity. Smart Search will sweep either the entire band or a portion
of the band and will load the special memory bank with the frequency data
pertaining to those channels on which activity is found. The Smart Search
feature is especially useful when visiting a city for the first time: Smart
Search will discover where the local activity is to be found, and will
automatically load those frequencies for you! |
| HUGE
MEMORY CAPACITY: 310 CHANNELS TOTAL |
| The FT-8100R's memory
system provides 99 "regular" memories which store frequency, repeater offset,
and tone information, plus 4 "band limit" memories, plus a one-touch "Home"
channel... all this individually for VHF as well as UHF! In addition, the
51 Smart Search memories per band bring the total memory capacity up to
310 channels, without equal in the industry! |
| ERGONOMICALLY-DESIGNED
OPERATING FUNCTION KEYS |
Immediately
below the LCD are the main command keys for the FT-8100R, providing control
of such important functions as CTCSS tone, repeater shift direction, power
level, etc. The labels for these command appear immediately above the key
on the LCD, easily visible in virtually any light. Pressing the [F/W] ("Function")
key momentarily transfers command control to a second level of features,
which become illuminated on the LCD when [F/W] is pressed. The less-often-used
commands may then be performed in seconds, allowing easier access to the
most important aspects of transceiver performance. |
| INDUSTRY
STANDARD 1200/9600 BPS DATA JACK |
The rear panel of the FT-8100R includes a 6-pin DIN DATA jack configured
in accordance with industry standards. The jack includes optimised lines
for both 1200 bps and 9600 bps packet work, for quick and trouble-free
installation into your high-speed data station. |
| INNOVATIVE
RF SQUELCH FEATURE |
| For specialised operating
circumstances, you may activate the RF Squelch feature, which allows you
to set up the squelch system such that only signals exceeding a certain
S-meter level will be allowed to open the squelch. This may be particularly
useful for alerting you to a particularly favourable propagation over a
difficult path for packet or satellite work. |

HIGH-POWER FINAL AMPLIFIER DESIGN: 50W VHF + 35W UHF |
Mobile
operation presents special challenges to RF engineers. The equipment must
withstand the rigors of vibration, shock, heat, and cold, yet must continue
to produce reliable RF power. The FT-8100R's power amplifiers include carefully-specified
M57781L/M57788MR (144/430 MHz) power modules for long life with high reliability.
The modules are mounted on the transceiver's diecast aluminium frame, which
is equipped with a thermostatically-controlled cooling fan for dissipation
of heat on warm days. The design provides 50 Watts of clean power on 2
meters and 35 Watts on 70 centimetres to help you get your message across! |
| SCANNING
MODES FOR EVERY OPERATING NEED |
The FT-8100R's scanning
capability is ready for your every operating situation. Among the leading-edge
scanning features are:
-
Scanning through the VFO range.
-
Scanning within programmable sub-band
limits.
-
Scanning through memory channels.
-
Scanning only through selected memories.
-
Scanning alternatively between VHF and
