Photo Gallery of Mjallby, Sweden.

Jerry & Leslie Gustafson traveled to Sweden in January, 2000.  With a map in hand and the family tree information available they found the country of Grandma Ida and her ancestors.  Mjallby is a small community on the coast of southern Sweden.

A special thanks to Henning, Christina, & Ingrid Hirsch.  (Family connection:  Henning was an exchange student with the family of Jim Mieritz (husband of Suzie Gustafson) when he was in high school.)  We had a wonderful stay with Henning & Christina in Boras, Sweden.  Ingrid did the groundwork in finding the location of the small towns found on the Gustafson tree.

Jerry and daughter Kari (currently living in Copenhagen, Denmark) being "Welcomed to Mjallby".

Mjallby Church (the only church) with trees in  winter.  There are stone buildings on both sides of the lane.

A model (located in the Church) of the traditional fishing boats of Mjallby.  Ida's father was a fisherman lost at sea.

Horvik, Sweden, located a couple of miles from Mjallby on the coast. This is where the fishermen came and went from - and still do. Jerry calls this the "ancestral drowning grounds."

This is the farmland of Ida's ancestors.  It is very flat and full of rocks.  Many buildings are 200-400 years old made of the rocks painstakenly moved from the fields.  It is not the best soil for growning and farming must have been very difficult work.
