| Margaret was born on July 2, 1905 in Sycamore, Illinois. She had red curly hair like Stan. She was very kind and soft-spoken. She left Port Wing after high school to go to Chicago and worked at Sears. She married Herbert Franson, a neighbor of the Gustafsons, and moved back to Port Wing. They bought a section of land that Ernest and Ida had, so they were close neighbors. They were visited often by the rest of the Gustafsons to play cards. In the winter it was cold and windy, so a trail was made in the ravine between the Gustafson and the Franson home so that visits could be made without having to experience too much wind. Emogene would babysit Margaret's three-year old daughter and got paid 10 cents each time. Margaret would go picking strawberries with the younger children and would provide them with Kool-Aid. Margaret and Herbert had one daughter, Phyllis. Margaret died of cancer in 1942 |
