Eloise and Dorothy
Dorothy was born on December 11, 1915, in Sycamore, Illinois.  Dorothy had to do many of the chores on the farm, including helping with the milking.  Dorothy started a sewing bee club, where she taught younger children how to embroider.  They made doll blankets from flour sack material.  Dorothy had a good time with her brothers and sisters and neighbor kids as they would go sleding together in the wintertime.  Dorothy remembers going to dances and being on a girl's basketball team at school.  She said that her team was pretty good.  One time the coach called an all-school assembly and talked about each individual player and said nice things about each one.  Dorothy would also play baseball with her brothers and their friends in the field on their farm in the evenings.  Baseball was a passion of the Gustafson children.  These baseball games took place very frequently on the Gustafson farm.
Dorothy eventually left Port Wing and moved to Chicago, where she worked for several years.  One of the jobs she took was as a child care worker in the home of a wealthy Jewish couple.  She also worked in some factories in Chicago.  Dorothy eventually met and married Gordon Cathers.  She had one son, named Gordon, as well.  Dorothy moved back to the Port Wing area.  She remarried to Bob Erickson, and they lived in a small house out in Orienta, where Dorothy lives to this day.
