IC-402 ADVANCED PROCESS CONTROL (B.Tech 8th Semester, 2063) Time : 3 Hours Maximum Marks : 60 NOTE:- This paper consist of Three Sections. Section A is compulsory. Do any Four questions from Section B and any two questions from Section C Section-A Marks : 20 1(a) List all multiloop control schemes you are familiar with indicating the number of controlled and manipulated variables in each. (b) Give an example of home application which is using closed loop control. (c) What are the advantages of cascade control over simple feedback control? (d) How dead time affects stability of the system ? (e) What are the typical control levels in DCS ? (f) What are the salient features of DCS system? (g) How interactions affect control of distillation column? (h) Identify process variables for control of distillation column. (i) Compare DCS Vs. PLC. (j) Draw instrumentation sysmbol for Orifice plate, hydraulic signals, solenoid valve three way valve. Section-B Marks:5 Each 2. Why threr is need of multiloop system? What are the limitations with single loop control. Explain with the help of an example. 3. With the help of diagram and equations discuss how dead time compensation is achieved. 4. What are the points to be considered in selection of PLC ? 5. Using PI diagrams, draw simple single loop control for heat exchanger. 6. Explain RGA method of minimizing interactions. Section-C Marks : 10 Each 7. Identify and draw the multiloop control configuration which without measuring the disturbance variable recognizes the upset conditions sooner than the controlled variable and is not sesitive to model 8. A Bottling plant has a conveyor carrying jam bottles. Caps are to be press fitted on the bottles. The caps are kept in a container. The machine arm has to pick the caps, sense the bottles and put the 9. Write notes on the following :            (a) Data acquistion system            (b) Supervisory control. |
