Aside from being a serious herp hobbiest, I am also studying to be a Dentist. I've just begun my junior year at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Dentistry. These next two years will be filled with wonderful clinical experience and training.

If you live in the greater Richmond area and are in need of dental care, I would suggest the VCU School of Dentistry as a provider. Here are a list of reasons why:

• VCU charges 1/2 to 1/3 the amount you would be charged in the private sector.
• VCU's board certified staff observe and assist the students to assure you get the best quality care possible.
• You will get to spend some quality time with a friendly dental student (maybe me).
• While receiving professional quality dental care, you will be helping the student to achieve his/her educational goals.

As to all things in life there are two sides to every coin. What you save in monetary value you will spend in time. Appointments run from 9:00AM to 12:00 noon, and from 2:00PM to 5:00pm. Basically you are looking at a 2-3 hour appointment. This is the reason why appointments can be lengthy. As a dental student, it takes more time to complete a procedure properly and be checked off by the attending faculty.

At the screening appoinment you will be examined by a member of every dental specialty at my school (periodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics,ect.). They will examine you to acertain your needs and determine if a student is capable of meeting those needs. If you are accepted as a patient they will asign you to a student to handle your case. If you so desire you can request myself. If you are not accepted as a patient it just means that your needs are too complex for a student to handle. You would then be refered to faculty practice or to the private sector.
