Jerry Elmore Layne of Animals Have Hearts, Too! in Texas
Has Died.
Had it not been for Jerry, poor little Queso's death would have gone unnoticed.
Please read Jerry's memorial
here.
This page is dedicated to Queso whose life was so cruelly taken away.  Though the "justice" system did not punish those responsible, I'm sure that Queso knows that he is loved and will never be fogotten.
MESSAGE FROM QUESO

I look down on the world today from such a better place. God opened up his loving arms and now Im home and safe.

I was one of Gods creations so innocent and small for you to take my life away makes no sense at all.

They said it was not cruelty, I was just a stray thats all, who gave you the right to make that life or death call? I was not scared or lonely; I felt I found my place on earth, the place that I called home.

I will pray each day for you two, judge and jury too, as Jesus said upon the cross They know not what they do. Each day I hope that you will come to understand that life and death is not a right to be decided by human hands.

To the thousands who have raised your voice in memory of me: Keep up the fight the world will change, let Queso (like the Alamo) be the fight word for your campaign.

To our sweet little Queso,
You are in heaven with the angels.  Your memory will be preserved here on earth.  I am hoping one day that all animals will be treated with dignity & respect.

Queso, you have passed over the Rainbow Bridge because of the inhumanity of humans.  Your life will live in all of us until we pass over the Bridge and can love you individually. You have not suffered and died in vain.

A man of kindness, to his beast is kind,
Brutal actions show a brutal mind.
Remember, He who made the brute,
Who gave thee speech and reason,
  formed him mute;
He can't complain;
  but God's omniscient eye
Beholds his cruelty. He hears his cry.
He was destined thy servant
  and thy drudge,
But know this: His creator is thy judge.

Although you were acquitted of your heinous crime against animals in a court
of law, by your own admission you were proven guilty, and guilty you will
remain in the eyes of animal lovers everywhere.

I doubt if I will ever find it in my heart to forgive you for what you did to
Queso. But I have a sneaky feeling that a Higher court has heard our appeals
for justice. So, I just want you to know that I will be praying for you.

I will pray that, despite your acquittal, the magnitude of the evil deed will
continue to overshadow and permeate every aspect of your pathetic lives for
the rest of your days.

I will pray that, no matter where you may run, or where you may transfer,
that someone in that area will have heard--and will inform others with--the
story of your heroic deed! I will pray that, several times a day over the
next sixty years, these people will remind you of what you did, in some way,
shape, or form!

I will pray that every prospective employer you speak with will be an animal
lover who has heard your glorious story! I pray that every one of your future
coworkers will have heard it also, and will accordingly bestow upon you the
epithets you've so justly deserve.

I will pray that, in the event that you have girlfriends, that they are, or
will become, aware of your past and urge you to get counseling. I pray that,
if you refuse, that they leave you long before you turn abusive towards them,
and that any other women who enter your lives will do the same.

I will pray that someday, this tale will come to the attention of your
children and your  grandchildren, all of whom, I pray, will love cats. I pray
that you will be at loss for words to excuse your actions, and, should you
lie, that they will still come to know the truth somehow, which will diminish
your status considerably in their eyes.

Despite the fact that you, and others like you, have permanently tarnished my
faith in humanity, I will pray that you will never turn into the sociopathic
killers so many people think you might. However, in case you do, I will pray
that people also remember the name of the coach who coddled you, the lawyer
who defended you, and the district attorney who dismissed the charges against
you. I will also pray that those who do remember will make certain that they
remind others.

I will pray that you come to realize the pain you inflicted upon Queso, and
on those who loved him, mentally if not physically. I will pray that each
night, before you drift into unconsciousness, that you will be haunted by the
memory of Queso's caterwauling screams for mercy, by the burning of his blood
upon your hands, by the shattered, tormented faces of the employees of Taco
Cabana who loved and fed him, by the angry voices of the many accusers who
know you for what you are!

And finally, I pray that someday, somehow, you will become truly remorseful
for what you've done. Perhaps then, and only then, I will be able to forgive
you.

Although, on the latter hope, I have a feeling I might be praying forever.

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows & hills for all our special
friends so they can run & play together. There is plenty of food, water, &
sunshine & our friends are warm & comfortable.

All the animals who have been ill & old are restored to health & vigor; those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole & strong again, just as we remember
them in our dreams of days & times gone by. The aminals are happy & content,
except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who
had to be left behind. They all run & play together, but the day comes when one
suddenly stops & looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager
body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he brgins to run from the group, flying over
the green grass, his legs carring him faster & faster.

You have been spotted, & when you & your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain
upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, & you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.......

I received an e-mail which let me know,
that a stray cat had been murdered, one named Queso.
The details were horrible, almost too much to bear,
the murderers were caught but treated much better than what was fair.
"Not guilty" the jury said just the other day,
and with murder those two monsters got away.
Now I'm left feeling empty, wondering what to do.
My heart is broken; much more than just feeling blue.
"Where is justice?" I ask as I cry,
The "not guilty" verdict is nothing but a lie.
Now I'm wondering how do I let go? Can someone answer that?
Queso was important. he wasn't "just a stray cat".
But I guess all I can do is try to help the other Quesos in this cruel
world we live in,
Help to ensure that something like this won't happen again.
