LIGAMENTS

As mentioned before, there is limited ligamentous support for the shoulder joint.  In fact, there are only four ligaments that support and restrict the glenohumeral joint from dislocating, and one group of ligaments that encases the glenohumeral joint capsule.  These ligaments are the coracoclavicular, coracoacromial, coracohumeral, acromioclavicular and the capsular ligaments.

LIGAMENTS
ATTACHMENTS
Coracohumeral
Originates at the base of the coracoid process and inserts on the humeral head
Coracoacromial
Spans the gap between the coracoid process and acromion
Acromioclavicular
Binds the acromion to the clavicle thereby restricting clavicular movemt at the acromial end
Coracoclavicular
Ties the clavicle to the coracoid process and helps to limit the movement between the clavicle and scapula
Capsular
Includes the superior, inferior and middle glenohumeral ligaments.  Joins the gleonhumeral joint capsul anteriorly, inferiorly and posteriorly
