| Not many people can tell what this is. It is a part of Lake Victoria that is known as the Nyanza Gulf. The plant growing in the Lake is the water hyacincth. When the water hyacinth was introduced to Lake Victoria, it clogged the lake and blocked off almost all fishing activities. But in the short term, it allowed the fish populations to recover. Now, it merely denies livilihoods to the fishing communities on the lake shore. 28 May 2001. |
