They are everywhere. Even at the Great Rift Valley, a massive fracture of the Earth's crust stretching from the Red Sea to the Zambezi River. 29 May 2001
All of this land will one day become flooded when the Rift splits far enough to allow the Red Sea in. For now, it is simply lowlands. In the distance is the dormant volcano Mount Longonot. 22 May 2001
Our first stop in the Rift Valley was the Ol Karia geothermal station. One effect of the Rifting process is that magma is flowing close to the Earth's surface. Some of this magma heats water, creating steam that is tapped  to produce almost six percent of Kenya's electricty. 22 May 2001

Hell's Gate National Park, within whose boundaries Ol Karia is located. Apparently there is a Hell's Gate in the park, but I didn't see it. 22 May 2001
