How and why should I clear my cache and cookies? Most pages you view are saved in your cache for easy reference by your browser. This allows your browser to pull up the page quicker. If others use this computer, they will be able to read the mail that you have read if you do not clear the cache. Cookies are used by websites as cache is used by your browser. It stores data on your computer instead of the websites computer to aid in the speed of browsing a site. If you share a computer, we recommend that you clear your cache, cookies, and your History file. To delete cookies, your browser must be shut down. To delete cookies: If you use Netscape: 1.Close down your browser 2.At the "Start Menu" in the bottom left hand corner of your monitor 3.Choose the "Find" action 4.Type cookie into the field 5.Look in "C" drive and press "Find Now" 6.You should see a .txt file symbolized by a white sheet of paper 7.Delete this file to delete all cookies 8.Save changes If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer: 1.Close down your browser 2.At the "Start Menu" in the bottom left hand corner of your monitor 3.Choose the "Find" action 4.Type cookie into the field 5.Look in "C" drive and press "Find Now" 6.You should see one or more folders 7.Open each folder until you see .txt files symbolized by white notebook sheets. 8.Delete all of these files to delete all cookies 9.Save changes To clear cache: If you use Netscape 4.x: 1.From the edit menu, select "Preferences". 2.Click on the + next to "Advanced." 3.When the list expands, click directly on "cache". 4.Click on the buttons Clear Disk Cache, and Clear Memory Cache located on the right side of the gray box. 5.Click OK for both. 6.Then choose "Every Time" for comparing against cache. 7.Click Ok the save the preferences. If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x: 1.Select the View menu 2.Click "Options" 3.Click on the "General" tab and then on "Delete Files" 4.Click on Settings and then choose "Every Visit to the Page" 5.Click OK to save the preference. If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x: 1.Select the Tools menu 2.Click "Internet Options" 3.Click on the "General" tab if it is not already selected 4.Click on the "Delete Files" button 5.Click Settings and then choose "Every Visit to the Page" 6.Click on the "Clear History" button 7.Click OK to save the preference You can also look up the term cache under help in your browser for further definition. |
