I remember the kiss
That started the fire
That burnt so deep inside.
How you held me
Close in your arms,
As you wove a pattern
Of deception,
Burying my heart
In a mire of lies..
I remember the seconds
Pounding by in my mind,
As I cursed time
Anticipating
Your return.
While I washed my face
Trying to erase
The canyons
My tears had burned.
"I will see you in the morning,"
You said,
As you
Descended the stairs.
While I swam
In a pool
Of agony;
Waiting
For the time
When once again
You would be there.
The minutes,
The hours
Spiraled by;
As balls of fire
Erupted from my eyes.
Then I slept
For the first time
In what seemed to be
An eternity.
Knowing soon
You would return
To set me free
From this
Excruciating pain.
Waiting
Patiently,
For the morning
That never came.
