| "Good tip - Organizing your sound disk" - Jwax Hey everyone, Just wanted to share a bit of experience with the newbies of the board. Before you get too far along in your relationship with Reason you MUST have an organizational plan for your sounds/songs. This will save countless hours of head scratching/banging and sorrow. Trust me... Firstly, the most important thing to have is a seprate hard disk for all your samples/patches/songs/(any sound related file). Keep ONLY the OS and programs on the main drive (C: for PC's). This way when you inevitably have to format your primary hard drive you won't have to go through the "what the heck do I need to burn to CD now?" syndrome. Which then leads to the "why the heck is my song missing files?" syndrome. Which is then followed by the previously mentioned head scratching/banging. Think out the organization of the drive (main categories, sub categories, etc) and stick with it, don't constantly rearrange things. Save EVERYTHING on this disk (I can't stress this enough). If funds permit you can even (like myself - paranoid) get another hard drive of equal capacity and a removable HDD kit. This way you can syncronize the drives with a program like file sync pro. If you do this religiously your chances of loosing a file are next to none. When working on a new song, make a folder for it. In this folder save your original session and each time you make a major revision add a number to the end of the file name (eg: song1.rns - song2.rns - song3.rns). This way if you screw up you can always go back to the last revision. Just had to share this because it took me so much trial and error to figure this out. Post a response if this actually helps you out... Oh, just remembered. You could also make multiple partitions on a single hard drive, but if it dies you loose everything and that sucks! |
