The Game- This section will cover nearly the whole game, so brace yourself.
On a whole, IK is about allegiances. To emphasize on this, a chart will be created that was sent with this document. Please refer to it if necessary. Also, it is much less stressing to do this section in a FAQ manner. So here we go
What are the classes going to be? To be general, there will be around 4 classes. These are melee, ranged, sorcery, and tradesmen. To be more specificmelee would have for an example a paladin, or mercenary. Ranged characters are your basic archery and gunpowder units. Sorcery would have a priest and Life givers. Tradesman is a new addition that is not really quite often seen in most RPGs. In tradesman you get to build siege weapons and other items/weapons in which you gain experience from doing it. There are a lot more classes but we wish not to reveal each at the moment since it will be a nice surprise.
How is the attribute system and skills? Well, our attribute and skill system is very simple. As in most MMORPGs, there are 5 main attributes to raise. These are of course strength, dexterity, focus, willpower, and agility. Strength and Dexterity are used for mainly by melee/ranged based characters but is needed to use weapons and armor. Focus is used for not only in magic skills but also for trade skills such as making arrows and siege weapons. Willpower is mainly used for magic purposes to make mages more powerful. Agility is for a character's quickness and movement in combat. This attribute is needed to run/walk faster and to hit faster in combat. In order to raise these attributes and skills you must gain experience points. Skills are what they are in different forms depending on character class. If you choose to be a mage for instance, you have Harmful Magic and Life Magic. Even though we are trying to limit skills, we may allow hybrid classes such as paladins (even though stated as a melee, it also has magic ability). Again, in order to raise these skill points, you must gain experience.
How exactly does your character GAIN experience and will their be experience lose when death? There are various ways for a character to gain experience points. Mainly experience is gained through combat in battles and duel tournaments. Other ways are to fight the strange creatures on the world or mainly for tradesman, that is siege weapons and weapons, or for mages, XP gain through casting certain spells. Death is a whole other discussion, which will be discussed later on in this information.
How big is the world of Luminance and how will one get across this big world? Luminance is a one of the biggest online worlds to be ever created. It is currently the size of the southeastern region of the US. And yes, we are still thinking of increasing it to an extent. Although latency/lag is a big concern, our servers are up to date technology that could avoid high pings and latency. To get across this overly huge world, we have implemented various means of transportation. For getting across water, we have very fast boats. For land, we have horses and other various "vehicles". People can also go across the world through portals created by mages.
How many players can a server hold simultaneously? Up to 25,000 players can play at once on each server. The servers are so advanced that nearly 30,000 players at once could battle each other simultaneously. But to avoid lag, we hit the number to 25,000.
What is the character level cap in this game? There is currently no level cap. Although we are taking it into consideration so we don't have super characters running around slaughtering lower level players, we are not sure until we get into beta. And leveling is not as easy as many people think it is.
Will there be computer or admin controlled nations? We are currently not sure but most likely yes. Computer guilds maybe "super" nations that are very hard to take down without player allies that will be a probable monthly event. As for admin controlled, it's a probability.
Are their any weird creatures that lurk this world? Yes there is actually and is one of the ways to gain experience and levels.
How will magic casting be like and melee bashing? Wands will not be needed to cast magic spells but they are in option. Also, the effects of spells are treated to how high the skill is. The higher the skill, the higher affect it has. The melee system is currently being tested so we have to wait and see how well or poorly it works.
What about death? In past MMORPGs, this concept was handled differently... Currently, we are testing to deal with death. One way is to make the player a "soul" and he must find his body. Or the other is to merely have the body in a cemetery at the captial so the player can recover the corpse. Death is just a state of character the player is in, items might not be lost nor will xp.
Will there be GMs in the game or something like advocates like in AC? We most likely will have that kind of program in the game but it will mainly be developers. Although as the game goes on we might use volunteer players to assist others.
How many creatures/species/races will there be in this game? I am not sure yet since the game does not exist(even though its building piece by piece( but you can check the creature/race page on the Imperial Kingdom's home page. This is just an approximation but I am thinking around 7 player controlled races and a lot of monsters to fight. :)
I hope this FAQ style information will help answer how the game will be but there is a lot more content needed to be said later on. If you have any further legitement questions please don't hesitate to e-mail the development staff of IK at [email protected]. Thank you and enjoy! ;)
