Listed Alphabetically Angst: A feeling of anxiety or apprehension often accompanied by depression. Emotional pain. Often prized by fanfic authors for the intensity which it adds to a story, or simply for the masochistic thrill of it. Also fanfic in which a character's emotional pain is a central plot element. (Usually contains characters ::coughPietrocough:: cutting themselves... O.o; Just kidding. Mostly, anyway... uh... >.>) A/N's: Acronym -- "Author's Notes." (I decline to comment on this... we all know how long my A/N's are, godammit. I've got this section down pat.) Archive: A collection of fanfic made available online. Usually this collection is of stories posted on a website or a private mailing list, presented with the fanfic author's permission. (Go read the goodies in my archive!! Yes! Go!! ::shoves::) AU: Acronym -- "Alternate Universe." Fanfic in which the story universe is radically altered from the canon show universe. (In other words, the author cannot stay within the guidelines provided by the show. Like me. >.> But then, isn't all fanfiction really sorta AU, then? O.o I confuse myself.) Beta: To edit/proofread a fanfic story. Saying "This story has been beta'd" means "This story has been proofread." (Helpful, but not if you can't take constructive criticism, like some people who shall remain nameless >.>) Beta Reader: A fanfic editor/proofreader. (I need one. Badly.) Bottom: The person on the receiving end of gay sex. (Pietro. Let's be honest, now.) BSDM: See S/M. Canon: Refers to facts established by the original fiction. Usually referenced as one might reference a holy text. Crossover: Also "x-over." Fanfic using characters and/or scenarios from two or more different cartoons, books, movies, etc. (I avoid these... mostly because I'm not really into much but Evo at the moment. That, and the majority of the ones I've read tend to suck.) Disclaimer: This is the section, usually located in the author's notes, in which a fanfic author admits that the characters which they are so shamelessly using for their own gratification really aren't theirs to begin with; they are merely borrowed from their original creators. This also pertains to any songs or other copyrighted material contained within the story. Nobody wants to get sued, because there probably isn't a fanfic writer out there who has any real money to begin with, so it's pretty much just PYOA. (Goshdarnit, I thought I'd already put this one, but Lady E caught me ;D) Ep/Eps: Abbreviations for "Episode." Erotica: This is basically what I do -- showing rather than telling about t' porn. Making it flowy and fluffy and better'n "Doctor Jones sucked the massive cock and he spewed all over his ass after he fucked him hard" type stuff. >.> (Nice little example, yes? I'm tired, so fuck you if you want something good.) Evietro: Evan/Pietro Evo: Short for Evolution; X-Men: Evolution (Eeee! Evo! ::is happy:: :D :D :D) D/S: Acronym -- "Dominance & Sumbission." (Oh, must I come up with something witty and cute here? Must I?! >.<; Just think of spanking, I guess. Yeah... spanking Pietro!! Oh yes. XD) Fandom: The term used to describe the community built up around a certain cartoon, book, movie, etc. (Evo Whores... ::coughs::) Fanon: A relationship or character elements that are common in fanfiction but not necessarily common on the show. (Like, say, oh, slashing Lance and Pietro...) Fanfiction: The writings of fan(atic)s, based on previously created and/or copyrighted characters. Used to create extra "episodes" and/or insight into the personal and/or romantic lives of characters in cartoons, books, movies, etc. Basically, an amateur story based on existing material. Addictive as fuck. Feedback: The customary thank you note sent to authors whose fanfic one reads; often includes editorial critique. Acts on most authors as a highly addictive recreational drug. (I live for reviews and commentary. I am a review whore. I admit this.) Fluff: A happy-happy-joy-joy story in which nothing bad happens, and everything is basically sweetness and light. It CAN be included within a story that has more than just fluffies, however. (batE's word to me... yay! :D) Femslash: Short for "Femme Slash." Basically, girl/girl slash. Lesbian stuff. Self-explanatory. H/C: Acronym -- "Hurt/Comfort." One of the characters gets hurt and the other comforts him. (Kinda like, "He beat me and took Wanda away and I had a horrible childhood!" "Okay... wanna fuck and make you all better?" "Okay!" ::screws:: "Wow, Lance, now all of my father issues have magically vanished!" "Cool... let's fuck again." "Okay!!" XD XD XD Or something along those lines... wow, that was actually kinda funny. Go me. ;D) Header: Similar to A/N's -- information usually included at the top of a fanfic story to inform readers of the content, but somewhat more structured. Standard header info is show (including crossovers) genre and rating, plus any necessary specifics about sex (including gender of any pairings and pairing of major characters), language, spoilers, violence, death, rape, etc. Hentai: Japanese(?) for "pervert(ed)." Used mostly in regards to anime, but can cross over into American animation. In western fan circles it describes material with explicit sexual content (used to describe what is basically porn). Het: Abbreviation -- "Hetero/Heterosexual." A fic containing non-gay stuffies. (I'm not too into this, I suppose, although I do have one submitted het ficcy under my belt... O.o) Kietro: Kitty/Pietro Kitrogue: Kitty/Rogue Kurmanda: Kurt/Amanda Kurtty: Kurt/Kitty Lancitty: Lance/Kitty Lancott: Lance/Scott Lantro: Lance/Pietro Lemon: These stories are not just the pretty, fluffy hentai smut that so many people write. This is a completely separate category within the genre of NC-17 fics which are more like porn movies: not only are they typically PWP, they are also less concerned with dialogue, existing character dynamics, or even current storylines within a particular book/movie/cartoon, etc., so much as they are with the not-necessarily well-written descriptions of gratuitous sex between characters; often, the more, the merrier.(Mmm, lemony-goodness... ::coughs:: I can't believe I forgot this one at first O.o It's like, what I'm all about. Damn! Anywho, this was also reminded to me by Lady E, who should make a site of her own but is being a wussy! >.<) Lime: A step down from lemon. Basically, kissing and groping is described, but hardcore action takes place "off-screen" (and batE, I love ya for sending me this, but the example you used makes me wanna break things because I am fucked up :D :D :D :D). Mary Sue/Gary Stu: A generally derogatory term fans use for a fictional character who is a blatant wish-fulfillment projection of the author. Mary Sue/Gary Stu is often too good to be true: beautiful/handsome, talented, intelligent, kind, loyal, brave, etc. Original characters immediately fall madly in love with her/him. ::much eye-rolling here:: "Mary-Sue" may refer to this type of character, or to a story containing such a character. (There's pretty much two types of Mary Sue -- the "Author's Surrogate" and the "Too Good To Be True." Mary Sues annoy me. OC's in general annoy me. I am easily annoyed, however, so...) ML: Acronym -- "Mailing List." (The EvolutionSlash ML makes me happy... wish it'd get all... popular and used again. ;__; The stupid Logan/Remy one, however, annoys the fuck outta me :D) Mod: A person who moderates a mailing list (ML). Also referred to as the listmommy or listdaddy. (Like Rosiel is for the EvoSlash ML.) MPreg: Abbreviation -- "Male Pregnancy." ::shudders:: >.O;; (Although Pietro and Lance would spawn absolutely gorgeous offspring... no.) MST: Acronym -- "Mystery Science Theater." These are stories which take a book/movie/cartoon, etc., and sometimes even other people's fanfiction, and then emulate the Sci-Fi Channel's series, Mystery Science Theater 3000. In case you're not a Sci-Fi geek, this is a series in which two robots and a human sit in a movie theater, watch B movies, and heckle the Hell out of them. These stories are not always welcomed by archivists, as they can become quite offensive, especially if created in reaction to someone else's fanfic. (Dude, I'd never of come up with this one myself! XD Thanks to Lady E for this one :D) Newbie: A term used to describe someone who is new to the community. (I remember this! HAHAA! ::feels oldie-ish::) OC: Acronym -- "Original Character." See "Mary Sue/Gary Stu" for more general detail. (Grr... >.<;;) One-Shot: A one chapter fic that can stand alone and does not necessarily have anything to do with any other story the author may have written. (But they can...! Like "Creepin'" to "Bittersweet" -- the same history is behind both fics... er, well, the future events in "Creepin'" are specific to "Bittersweet" and its storyline... yeah. batE's nifty. :D) OOC: Acronym -- "Out of Character." Can be used in reference to the poor writing of a character's known ways or behavior, or as a note within writing to let the reader know you've digressed into your own persona, and thus, out of the character (seen in RPGing/RPG message boards and fanfiction). (Hmm... do I mention the absolute OOC-circus that is "Bittersweet"? Or any of my fics? Oops, too late! XD) Pietrance: Pietro/Lance PWP: Acronym -- "Porn With Plot." Also "Plot? What Plot?!" (The PB knows alllll about this XD) Recommended Musical Accompaniment: This is a list comprised of any number of songs which would make up the soundtrack of the story if it were made into an ep. These songs may or may not be referenced within the story, but are usually songs which the author feels help to create an appropriate reading atmosphere and enhance the emotional content of the story. (Thanks again to Lady E for this little addition :D) Rietro: Rogue/Pietro (and also the root of all evil >.>;) Rola: Rogue/Lance Scogue: Scott/Rogue Sconce: Scott/Lance Ship: Short for "relationship." 'Shipper: (Relationshipper.) Someone who rabidly supports a particular ship/ships. (For example, I would be a Lance/Pietro shipper. ::nods::) Shounen-ai: Boy/boy relationship; usually pertaining to anime, softcore compared to Yaoi. (Thanks, lil sis! :D) Shoujo-ai: Girl/girl relationship; usually pertaining to anime, softcore compared to Yuri. (Again, Medsie gave me this one, too ^^)
Slash: A word used by fans to mean a romantic and/or sexual relationship between two characters of the same gender, especially two males. It dates from Star Trek Classic days, and Kirk/Spock fanfic (the term comes from the punctuation mark). (Slash! Eeee! ::squeals with happiness::)
Sleep: Something very nice that I need. Desperately. >.>;; S/M: Acronym -- "Sado-Masochism." Also S&M. (Good potential here. Fuzzy handcuffs and whips and chains. Yum. ::pictures Pietro in strappy leather ensemble::) Songfic: A story built around or heavily inspired by a song. (I suck at these, but I love 'em anyway! XD I like listening to songs and thinking of how they could possibly pertain to a certain character or pairing... and trust me, my brethren: almost anything you hear can become slash. Anything. >.>) Spoiler: Content that mentions or involves a series of events that the reader may or may not have been exposed to, or stories that use events in recently aired eps of the originating show (specific eps and situations are usually named). (As if we haven't already seen all the episodes, usually multiple times and again. And then some. :P) Squick: A fetish or story element that the reader finds hard to stomach. (I actually had never heard this word till I started hangin' with my Evo Whores... I think Rosiel was the first to use it around me O.o) Tabietro: Tabitha/Pietro (Also "Tabbietro.") TPTB: Acronym -- "The Powers That Be." (....Fuck them! >.<) Top: The person on the giving end of gay sex. (Lance. He's top dog ;D) Yaoi: Boy/boy relationships; usually pertaining to anime. Yuri: Girl/girl relationships; usually pertaining to anime. Have something to share? Something blatantly obvious that somehow I've foolishly missed? Submit it to Psycho B and reap eternal love and gratitude!! Current submittors: Medsie, Lady Eternal, batE. C'mon, guys, that's WEAK! Send me stuff! As you can see, you would be immortalized on my site as having credit for your submission! (Even if you don't know what something means, and you want me to look it up and do research, which I may or may not be successful at >.>; You can also choose to not have credit, but why'd you wanna do that? O.o Always take credit for everything you do! ::end mini-rant::) I was amused as fuck when I opened my inbox today and saw "Ya missed a term, moron" as the subject XD XD I amuse even myself sometimes.
