PHONE INTERVIEW WITH AARON KAMIN OF THE CALLING

<< back l page 2

PRESS: Yeah… Or even, like, individually. As “normal” people…

Aaron: (Laughs) I think we’re pretty normal! Y’know, we have girlfriends, and… y’know, this will tell you how different Alex and I (are) – Alex has two cats, and I have two dogs. So ah, we always make jokes that we should ah, let our animals fight, but that’s not okay (laughs). Y’know, we have our girlfriends, and all like to go to the movies and be with family, and our families know each other, so, y’know, we have a bond, y’know, we’re sort of like brothers, I think we’re both a part of each other’s families and I hope it’s gonna stay that way. But uh, y’know, definitely, we gotta give ourselves some space some time ---  if we spend too much time together...

PRESS: Which artists or bands would you say does The Calling’s brand of sound hail its musical influences from?

Aaron: Um, I know our influences but sometimes I wonder if we really sound like our influences. But, y’know, we both really love, uh, y’know, U2 and Pearl Jam, um, Peter Gabriel is my favorite. Um, there’s the old stuff too, like James Taylor and Led Zeplin, the Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix, all the good stuff.

PRESS: So what have you been listening to lately?

Aaron: (Laughs) I’ve been listening to our record, coz we’ve been trying to finish it! So…I’ve actually been listening to that so much that I don’t want to listen to anything, period. So I’ve been taking a break.

PRESS: Would you say that your success as a band has met your expectations?

Aaron: Oh, yeah. I mean, yes and no, y’know, you, ah, you definitely hope for,  y’know I think every time you have to hope for so much, y’know, I mean that’s what’s so great about life is that anything can happen and y’know, the sky is really the limit, y’know, we can all pretty much do anything if we put our hearts and our minds to it, um, so, you have to be really thankful that, um, we had the success that we did, but at the same time, I think we all recognize that, ah, it doesn’t happen to everybody and just like we’ve already succeeded, we could lose that success, so, I think we’re all, really, ah, careful, um, with respecting, ah, our career.

PRESS: What’s the most fulfilling aspect of music-making?

Aaron: Ah, for me, y’know, for different people, it’s different, and ah, for me, it’s definitely, ah, all about making the record. That means the most to me. Writing the song, and doing the recording is something that can last forever. So, ah, that’s just definitely the most rewarding part of it for me.

PRESS: One last question, the classic one: Are you guys planning on stopping over here in the Philippines?

Aaron: I would love to! Actually, one of our, our manager, she’s from the Philippines, and she tells us we’d better go there. So, uh, we probably will!

PRESS: Wow! We’re all looking forward to it!

Aaron: (Laughs) Yeah!

PRESS: Thank you so much, Aaron!

Aaron: Thank you. Take care of yourself.

PRESS: Thanks! You too!

Aaron: Bye!
