The Swan

Cygnus

February 9 - 29

Cygnus, the Swan, is a Summer constellation in the northern hemisphere. It is easy to find, as it flies along the Milky Way with wings outstreached in the form of a cross. The brilliant white star, Deneb, which marks its abdomen, forms part of the great 'Summer Triangle' which glitters in the northern summer skies. Vega in Lyra, a constellation which lies to the west of it, and Altair in Aquila, the Eagle, which lies to the south, mark the other pointers of the Triangle. Cygnus is also called the Northern Cross.
