The Dragon
Draco
July 26 - August 7 & December 17 - 23
The stars of Draco, the Dragon which guards the North Pole, lie between Ursa Major, the Great Bear - also known as the Plough and the Big Dipper - and Cygnus, the Swan. To find it, continue the line formed by the 'pointers', which are the two bright stars furthest from the plough handle, until you reach Polaris, the Pole Star in the Little Bear, Ursa Minor. The Dragon coils around the Little Bear, which was the Dragon's Wing in ancient times. Thuban, the main star in the Dragon, was the Pole Star in 3000 BC.
