ASTROLOGY is the study of how the position of all the different planets at the time of your birth relates to you or to things that happen. Astrologers use all the planets in the solar system and not just the sun - which is why "sun sign astrology" as found in the newspaper columns may be fun but not always accurate.

Every person is different because the planets are constantly moving around a moving earth, and their positions change from one moment to the next. Each horoscope (your personal star map) is unique. It is calculated for the precise moment of your birth and is viewed from the place where you were born. This is why every chart varies - even twins will have a different horoscope.

The horoscope is drawn like a wheel with spokes dividing the map or chart into twelve sections which are called houses. Each house corresponds to a different aspect of life. The wheel spins slowly throughout the day so that each house revolves through each of the signs of the zodiac in a 24 hour period, just as the sun moves through all 12 signs in the course of the year.

Astrology is a science and does not involve psychic or mysterious phenomena - although psychics may use astrology as an adjunct to their work. Humanistic astrology is chiefly concerned with the effect of the horoscope on personality. Mundane astrology deals with the timing of events - or more accurately, the influences surrounding events - especially as it concerns the world in general. Horary astrology attempts to answer specific questions- although what you do with the answer is up to you. Horary questions are particularly useful in helping to locate lost items! Synastry is the comparison of two natal charts to evaluate where a relationship is likely to be in sync or in conflict. Relocation astrology will tell you what may influence you most in your place of birth or another city.

These days most charts are calculated using a computer - this is faster and guarantees accuracy. Astrologers in fact use similar calculation programs to those used by NASA! Computer programs can also produce an analysis of what the chart means. These are both interesting and good value, but the most accurate interpretations and explanations will always be provided by a skilled professional astrologer.
