| Psychiatry (and psychology) is in a 'nutshell' the study of the human psyche or mind. On this website that I have endevoured to create; you can find out more about psychiatry. The special thing about this website is, however, is this is the proverbial psychiatry 'couch' where you can email in confidence, any problems in your life that require solutions, and anything reguarding your mental health. Your problems can be anything, ranging from a simple question, to an in-dept psychoanalysis. I, with the help of my trusted collegue, can figure out your problem with you in confidence, free of charge and help you recover your life. This is a genuine venture I have set out to accomplish and I wish to help others accomplish what they require in their lives. You do not have to leave your name or any personal deatails, all I ask is that you leave your e-mail address (which shall be kept 100% private, see Privacy Statment) so that I can reply with the solution you are in need of. I hope you will share your problems with us. You don't have to have a problem to e-mail us; you can just ask us for information regarding anything to do with psychology/psychiatry; careers in psychiatry, medicine etc... Just ask! |

| Extract from Contemporary Psychiatry, By John Lovett Doust. 'We shall attempt a few basic terms here, to provide ourselves with a frame of reference for discussion... First then, let us consider the word 'emotion'.This is a common-enough term and one in everyday use. Everyone will have his own private meaning for it. In psychiatry, however, the term emotion is a 'syndrome'... Syndrome is a word used in internal medicine. It is defined as a cluster, or pattern, of symptoms or characteristics believed to have a common characteristic or cause. So, we may infer... that emotion is not one thing but a cluster of common characteristics. The word does not refer to the subjects...moods or spirits; not only either in his affect (that is, the amount of energy or valence of the feeling state); not only either to the behavior of the individual (whether his face blemishes or blushes, or his hands tremble or sweat, or his legs start running to carry him well away from whatever it was that provoked him); An emotion is not any of these separately, but a syndrome of them all, and therefore very complicated, which in fact, involves every organ and tissue in the body.' **Special Acknowledgement to John Lovett Doust, whom, although not knowing of this quote from his book, I am most thankful and grateful, for if it were not for his book, I should never have delved further into psychiatry. ** |
