The Department of Psychiatry of Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital was established in 1957. Initially, it started functioning at Lok Nayak Hospital. When G. B. Pant Hospital came up in 1964, the department shifted there with both inpatient and outpatient facilities. University of Delhi started its first batch of M. D. (Psychiatry) in this department. It provides tertiary health care to people from Northern India. The department imparts training to both undergraduates (MBBS) and postgraduates (MD Psychiatry). It is a premier center for both funded and unfunded research projects. Apart from general psychiatric care, it provides clinical services in child psychiatry, adolescent psychiatry, psycho-geriatric disorders, substance use disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder and psycho-sexual disorders. With its learned Faculty and dedicated team of workers, this department has a bright future.
