Doom 3

Doom 3 is a constant barrage of mental attacks aimed straight for your mind, until you crack or beat the game you will be afraid. Even the most hardcore gamers don't leave Doom 3 unscathed, they either will be crippled with fear, or become more accustomed to that kind of pressure. Who will you be?

Background

I never really was able to play the previous Doom games with intrest, because they seemed kinda dumb. Boy, does Doom 3 change my opinion. With its superior graphics, stick to story, freaky monster, ambient sounds, and constant darkness really kept me playing. Now for the review

Graphics

If you havent played Domm 3, or seen any movies, or good screenshots, quick look at some screems down lower. The graphics are mind blowing, and comparable to Halo 2 and Half-Life 2. You can now see why they took more that 4 years to complete their masterpiece. The textures are amazing and almost life-like, the particles are almost tangible, but the fear is real. Doom 3 uses these elements to use fear to keep you playing, and interested. Combined with blood-curdling sounds you soon will be scared of what might be around the corner, or lurking in the shadows.

Sound

Every game has its own sounds for guns and whatnot, but are they realistic? Doom 3 is the perfect example of ambient sounds, if you don't know what that is, hold on. Ambient sounds are eveywhere in all games, they are the ones that have no real source in the game, something like crickets chirping(only if you cant see them in the game). In Doom 3, there are all kinds of sounds like moaning, footsteps, laughter, and more. These are what get your hairs standing on end, because you cant decipher whether it is from some monster or if its trying to scare you. Another element the game uses with sound is silence, yes, the sounds of silence. Silence works just as good as any other sounds, if the mood is right. Lets say you are playing in the middle of the night, with a well set up surround sound system, and high quality graphics, what then? I'll tell you, every little sound will be freaking you out, and its so scary you might just shit yourself.. Yet, there were the weak sounding guns, so sound gets...

Fun

Its not really fun unless you get a thrill from excitement, or from scaring yourself. Its mainly an experience to test your nerves. Yet the sound and graphics actually make it a good experience.

Playability

Theres not much replay value unless you want to beat the story mode again, which i doubt most people will do. Yet there is a multiplayer that is mildly entertaining, but not something you'll be playing for long. The main reason to play this game is to play the singleplayer mode, which is the best part.

85% - A good game, worthwile to buy if it is around $35-$40.
