| Putnam and its neighboring Soil & Water Conservation Districts sponsor a number of school and civic programs designed to give students a better understanding of the Earth's natural resources and the importance of preserving them. Soil & Water promotes education through a number of programs: |

Envirothon |
More than 60 schools from 20 northwestern Ohio counties compete in the annual Area-1 Envirothon, held in the spring, in which students are tested on their knowledge on soil, wildlife, environmental issues, forestry and aquatics. The top four schools in the event compete in the Ohio Envirothon. Soil & Water sponsors this event. |
