| A few nights ago I went to see Megadeth at the Roseland. I was conned into going by Jeremy and Fletcher, because they are both die-hard metalheads. I, needless to say, am not. Jeremy fed me some line about how this would be the only chance I would get to see a real 80s metal band, so I was sold at that point. When we first went to get tickets, I decided not to go, but somehow in the next few days I decided that I didn't want to miss out on an opportunity like this, so I went back to Safeway and shelled out $30 for a ticket. On the day of the concert, we decided to get down there by 4:00 so we can be sure to get some good spots in the very front. I secretly wanted to score some backstage passes, even though I don't really care about Megadeth because they aren't even the same band anymore. We were the first people there by about 30 minutes or so, so we had to wait outside in the below-freezing temperatures until the doors opened at 7:00. The next group of people that showed up was these two hardcore-goth type chicks and these geeky looking guys. One girl was wearing this huge black shirt that had some band name on the front in that crappy Old English font, and then the back said something really stupid about hating posers. The whole point of me writing this article is to just express my opinion about the type of people that go to any kind of concert. I will use these girls as my example, just because I was thinking about it when I saw them at the concert. Anyway, they were wearing tons of black eye liner and wearing these huge stovepipe black pants that were adorned with zippers and chains. I couldn't help but think to myself about how they looked really stupid and how they WERE POSERS by looking like that. I don't normally care about what other people are wearing, but the whole goth movement is something that just bugs the crap out of me. These people claim that they express their individuality by dressing a certain way, but in reality, probably about 40% of youth look exactly the same. Plus, if you need to dress a certain way and pretend your a vampire just to express your individuality, then there is something wrong with you. There are other ways to convey your personality. The thing that I realized by going to the Megadeth concert is that I don't like the culture associated with metal music. Everyone was out of control, and I just couldn't get into the music because I was fearing for my life. Here's pretty much how it went down: |

| Yes, I got kicked in the face. By Dave Mustaine. I don't really mind metal at all, as long as it's good. I just don't like when entire albums consist of songs that all the same volume and tempo. At the concert, pretty much every song sounded the same. There was only a few songs that I really enjoyed at the concert. While we were in the front, I couldn't hear much more than the double bass drums. I'll save all my complaining about my bruises and various other battle wounds from the mosh pit for if you see me in person. So that's pretty much my opinion of the Megadeth concert. I'm sure Jeremy and Fletch have different takes on it, but it's not even worth arguing because I refuse to compromise my beliefs. Yeah, I'm biased... but I'm okay with that. |
