| More Reasons to Hate Kim | ||||||||
| I am so sick of people that listen to crappy music. Being a self-proclaimed music elitist, I am very selective about the kinds of music that I listen to, as well as the bands I like. So many people don't realize that there are a lot of crappy bands out there. Unfortunately, most of them are pretty popular. The good bands are overlooked because they aren't as mainstream. For example, Dream Theater. Probably the greatest rock musicians in the history of the universe. All of the musicians studied at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, which is probably one of the greatest jazz schools in the nation. Although, the keyboardist in DT didn't go to Berklee. Yeah, he went to JUILLIARD. DT doesn't care that they aren't mainstream. Their songs don't get played on the radio, because they are all over 10 minutes. They are awesome because they write rock symphonies. Excellent musicians. On the other hand, there is Nirvana. Nirvana sucks. They are the musical equivilant of shooting myself in the foot. Everyone always says, "Kim, Nirvana started the grunge movement! They are an excellent, revolutionary band!" BS. Anyone that says that to me is full of crap. Kurt Cobain is a musical MORON. "Oh... his lyics... they're like poetry...he's been through such pain...MARTYR MARTYR..." UGH. Yeah, he was a complete drug addict, which led to his suicide. What a tragic hero. NOT.The Pumpkins completely bridged the gap between alternative rock and grunge. What a great band. Earlier today, I listened to "Smells Like Teen Spirit." It made me want to slit my wrists, because I realized what a crappy song it was. The whole time, the drummer is playing the basic backbeat. It doesn't ever change. Oh wait...He just played a fill that consisted of 16th notes on the snare. That takes a lot of talent and skill. The bass player just plays 4 notes the whole time. Not to mention the fact that Kurt Cobain only plays 4 power chords. Oh wait! I forgot about that really musical and SICK guitar solo near the end. I'm pretty sure that no guitarist could even TOUCH that. I mean, it had a couple of bends in it, so it was pretty complicated. David Gilmour has NOTHING on Kurt Cobain. Enough about Nirvana. I enjoy listening to music made by talented musicians. The greatest rock songs may be technically simple, but the chord progressions and creativity of the music is what makes it so far above...Nirvana. What is up with these "hardcore punk" bands that are so popular now? Good Charlotte sucks. There music is basic and uncreative. On a scale of 10 to Nirvana, they get like a 2. Blink 182 gets a 1, because not only does all their music sound the same, it all involves just 3 power chords. Their "singing" is just screaming really loudly, which along with taking ZERO talent, it grates on everybody's nerves. No one likes to listen to a bunch of stupid druggie wannabe rock musicians screaming their lungs out in a super low voice. I know I sure don't. I wish that I lived back in the 70's, when all the awesome bands were at their prime. 1973 was a great year. The Who's "Quadrophenia" came out, Houses of the Holy, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Dark Side of the Moon, all these great albums. The next person that comes up to me and says, "Oh you love The Who? You should listen to 'Behind Blue Eyes' by Limp Bizkit! It's way better than the original!" will get a punch in the face. By Kim Waara, room 420 (Don't come tell me that I live in 420, retards.) |
