| Upset of the Week |
| Someday, all the mystical powers in the Universe that are aligned directly toward the Ohio State Buckeye football team will skew and the Buckeyes will lose a game. And I will be watching. Unfortunately, last week wasnt the week for it to happen. So, what did happen? How did Bowling Green not pull the upset? The Falcons were set up perfectly to drop the defending National Champions and put them in their rightful place. Everything really was in the Falcons favor. For starters, alll of the distractions from Maurice Clarett and his nonsense were still freshly looming around Ohio Stadium. Then, the Buckeyes starting quarterback Craig Krenzel got injured and would not play in the game. Finally, last Saturday marked a tremendous coming out party for the Mid-American Conference (MAC) as four other teams pulled astronomical upsets over ranked opponents. It was only natural that Bowling Green would add another major victory for the conference. With time running out and down 24-17, the Falcons were driving to tie the game and send it into overtime. It couldnt have played out more dramatically. But, then, something intervened right as a great upset was unfolding. That something was Buckeye Senior Strong Safety Will Allen (#4) intercepting a pass to end the game. ``Once again, it came down to one play, and thank God I was in the right spot,'' Allen said. ``It's beginning to be second nature to have the ball in my hands at the end of the game.'' Yeah right, does he really believe it was he and he alone that were behind this? No way. Allen should be thanking the Gods of Close Calls as they are merely showcasing their power through him. Thats all. Allen has been the primary reason the Buckeyes own the nations longest winning streak. A touchdown or less has decided 10 of the Buckeyes last 15 games and Allen has been the reason the Buckeyes won five of those 10 games. Perhaps its not luck. Perhaps its talent, preparation, coaching, or even desire. Or perhaps its just the way things are going to be. The Buckeyes have won 18 straight games, period. Regardless of how it happened, it happened. But, all good things come to an end. Its inevitable. So, if the Buckeyes keep winning, that just means that when they fall, they will fall hard. And sometimes, getting up after a hard fall proves to be more difficult than the fall itself. Best of luck, Buckeyes.
