Its
Bowden Bowl V.

This might be the final
Bowden Bowl. Not since Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader dueled with their lightsabers have we had such a face off between father and son. The PSU Preview Staff can almost imagine Bobby taking off his Oakleys and in a thick, raspy voice stating, Dadgum it, Tommy, I am your daddy.

But, this annual series may
end not because Darth
Bowden is turning 74 today
and is close to retiring, but
because the young Jedi
Bowden isnt performing as
well as his silver-screen
counterpart.

Tommy Bowden is well
aware of the fact that this
game might determine his
future with
Clemson. So are
his players. Tommy has a
34-24 record at Clemson.
What is even more
disappointing is the fact that none of the wins come against
Florida State. In their four previous match ups, Bobby has shown no mercy in humiliating his son.

Remember three years ago? Tommys Tigers were 8-1 and ranked No. 10. Bobbys Seminoles were, as always, playing for a shot at the national championship. FSU Quarterback
Chris Weinke threw a 42-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter in what turned out to be a 54-7 ass kicking. When the Tigers found themselves in the red zone in the final minutes, Bobby called a timeout to get his first string defense on the field.

When Tommy exited the field, Seminole fans in
Tallahassee, who are known for their warm and hospitable embrace of visiting teams, chanted, Whos your daddy? Thats sweet.

Last week, Tommy and the Tigers lost a very disappointing game to
Wake Forest 45-17, dropping them to a 5-4 record overall and a 3-3 Conference record.  What better way to silence the speculation that this might be Tommys last year at Clemson than by beating Florida State this weekend?

The Staff is hoping that the thought of Tommys job on the line will be enough for the Tigers to be on the delivering side of an ass kicking that will keep his father out of the National Championship race. Nothing would please the Staff more.

Good luck Tommy and, dadgumit, may the force be with you!

PSU PREVIEW PREDICTION:
Bobby 24 - Tommy 28

Following the loss to his father in 2000, Tommys record at Clemson has been an unsatisfactory 20-18. Its almost haunting how much that game changed Tommy and the Tigers.

Even
Ann Bowden, Bobbys wife and Tommys mother, has given up on Tommys chances. In the early days of the Bowden Bowl, Ann used to wear both teams colors and switch seats at halftime in an effort to support both sides. Today Ann will be wearing only garnet and gold, two colors that really dont look good on anyone, and sitting proudly in the visiting Seminole section throughout the game.
