Wengryn Provides Icing on Big Cake
Outfielder fuels ten run inning in rout.
If evidence was ever needed to support the claim that baseball is a crazy game, the events of the past weekend would suffice.  The Penn State Beaver baseball team struggled in a doubleheader against Penn State McKeesport on Saturday, inching out a 2-1 victory in the opener.  On Tuesday, the Blue Devils thumped the Lions by a score of 20-1.  Twelve different Blue Devils recorded hits in the assault, including eight hits in the bottom of the sixth.
Greg Wengryn - 2-2, 5 RBI, first freshman to homer.

Penn State Beaver scored in every inning except the second.  In the first inning, John Rosati led off with a single and stole second base.  He was hit in by Trent Berner's sacrifice fly.
The Blue Devils secured all the runs they would need in the third inning as Andy Fry and Ron Glass singled to open the inning.  Glass's single scored the game winning run.  Outfielder Rick Dietz put an exclamation point on the inning with a two run homer.
The real fireworks occurred in the sixth inning when Penn State Beaver scored a season high ten runs.  Andy Fry singled and Matt Niger was hit by a pitch.  Fry scored on a passed ball during Ron Glass's at bat.  Glass eventually walked and was driven in by Greg Wengryn's three run home run to left field.  Wengryn also added a two run single later in the inning to give him five runs batted in for the game.  Brad Mustio and Curt Halsey also singled.
Fry and Mustio also recorded two hits in the sixth inning.
Justin Tucker pitched a complete game four hitter and improved his record to 3-1.  Tucker's earned run average is 1.45 and opponent's are batting a meagerly .194 against him.  Tucker is quickly establishing himself as a reliable lefthander in the starting rotation.  His only loss was a eight hit effort against Butler County Community College, a 2-1 extra inning defeat.  He pitched 10 innings in the outing.
