| The Blue Devils experienced many emotional ups and downs on this beautiful Sunday afternoon, but through it all, they steered a steady course toward victory. From falling behind 2-0 in the first game; to busting a 1-1 tie in the second game with a pair of home runs in the seventh inning; to losing a lead in the bottom of the seventh to a three run homer. In the end, the Devils maintained maturity and poise in order to sweep an important two game tilt. Craig Herrmann won his third game in a row in the first game, allowing seven hits and four walks. Steve Pflugh pitched a perfect 1.3 innings for the save. Pflugh would not have such luck in the second game, |

| though. Trying to secure the victory for Mike Berwick, who was lifted in the seventh inning, Pflugh was the victim of a three run homer that tied the game. Pflugh secured the win in the eighth inning after being given a one run lead. PSU BEAVER 8 PSU Fayette 4 Craig Herrmann did not have his best stuff this outing, but was able to buckle down and get important outs when he needed them. He allowed ten baserunners on, but only allowed three earned runs. The Blue Devils were behind 2-0 in the fourth inning when they scored their first two runs to tie the game. Rick Dietz singled, while Chris Thumm drew a walk. Both runners scored on Brad Dean's pinch hits double. The Devils scored three more runs in the fifth inning to stake a lead they would not relinquish. The runs were the result of consecutive base hits by John Rosati, Trent Berner, Mike Meerdo, and Rick Dietz. Dan Hileman scored Meerdo on a groundout. Steve Pflugh pitched a perfect seventh for the seventh. BOX SCORE PSU BEAVER 5 PSU Fayette 4 What started as a pitcher's duel for six innings, erupted into an all out slugfest at the games conclusion. Beaver and Fayette battled for a 1-1 tie for six innings before the fireworks that was the seventh inning exploded, leaving the game in doubt for the Blue Devils. |
| The Blue Devils seemed like they would take command of the game early as they scored a run in the first inning for only the third time this season. John Rosati, who had six hits on the day, led off with a single. He scored on Brad Dean's two out hit. That would be the last time the Devil bats would speak until the seventh inning. Fayette tied the score in the fourth inning on a costly error by Blue Devil center fielder John Rosati. Rosati made up for the miscue in the seventh inning. In the seventh inning, Dan Hileman slugged the first pitch over the right center field fence for a 2-1 lead. Hileman's blast was the first Blue Devil home run of the season. It would not take long for Blue Devil faithful to see the second. After a Ron Glass single, Rosati, hitting from the leadoff spot, blasted a home run down the left field line, giving the Blue Devils a 4-1 lead. Despited a three run deficit, PSU Fayette would not go away. After Mike Berwick allowed two singles, he was lifted in favor of Steve Pflugh. Pflugh was not able to shut the door as he allowed a three run homer to tie the game. The Blue Devils demonstrated immense resolve in the top of the eighth inning though. After the heartbreaking homer, the Devils mustered a run to win the game. Rick Dietz led off with a double, was moved to third on Ryan Campbell's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Andy Fry's pinch hit single.
