Lambert Dominates Allegheny Sophomore righthander tosses one hitter
Dwight Lambert improved his record to 2-2 with a masterful one hitter against a CCAC Allegheny team that he dominated in a 2-1 loss earlier in the season. Lambert had his bid at a no hitter foiled in the fourth inning when James Shimko lofted a lazy single into right center field. Lambert has been dominating this fall. With an ERA of 1.54 and an opponent's batting average of .163 against, it would be difficult to find a right handed pitcher in the conference with better statistics. CCAC Allegheny 1 PSU BEAVER 11 Penn State Beaver scored enough runs in the first inning to secure the victory on this day. Two runs were scored on a throwing error by the catcher and left fielder on the same play. Brad Mustio, who reached on a line drive single, attempted to steal third base when the ball got past the third baseman into left field. The errant throw enabled Mustio to score.
Mike Meerdo, who was following behind Mustio scored on the left fielder's errant throw. The Blue Devils offensive explosion came in the eighth inning when they secured a mercy rule victory with a six run inning. In the inning, Chris Thumm, Ryan Campbell, Brad Mustio, Mike Meerdo, and Rick Dietz all delivered hits that accounted for Devil runs. The onslaught guaranteed the one hit complete game for Dwight Lambert. Chris Thumm, Brad Mustio, and Mike Meerdo had huge games for the Blue Devils. Thumm finished with two doubles and three hits. Mustio was 4-5 with three runs. Meerdo had two doubles, scored three runs, and knocked in two. With the win the Blue Devils maintained a three game lead on Westmoreland for second place. BOX SCORE
