PREPARATION FOR TRAINING CLASSES
1. The official uniform of Taekwon-do must be clean and properly ironed.
2. Members must make sure that their appearnce and personal grooming are neat and tidy. For safety reasons, all nails should be cut short. Those who wear glasses should use an elastic band to firmly secure their glasses during training.
3. Members must arrive at their centre well before the commencement of class.
4. Regularly check to see if all fees are paid to date.
ON ARRIVAL
1. Promptly change into your dobok and remove all accessories - rings, watched, earrings and anything that may be considered dangerous.
2. Make sure glasses, if worn are securely positioned.
3. Remove your footwear prior to entry into the dojang at all times.
ENTERING THE DOJANG
1. Members should enter the dojang at least 10 minutes before the commencement of the class and be prepared both physically and mentally. Show courtesy by allowing the senior members or adults to enter first.
2. Bow on entering the dojang to either the national flag if displayed or to the dojang as a sign of respect.
3. When entering the dojang, bow to the Chief Instructor first, then to the Assistant Instructors and finally to the senior members regardless of age. At the same time, younger students should respect their elders for their age and social status. The correct method of bowing is to first stand to attention, then tilt your head at an angle of 45 degrees with the eyes downcast followed by the bending of the waist at 15 degrees.
INSIDE THE DOJANG
1. One must fully concentrate on Taekwon-do. Do not bring your outside worries or matters into the dojang.
2. All members must treat each other with respect according to seniority.
3. All instructions issued by the Instructor or senior members within the dojang must be obeyed.
4. In the dojang silence must be maintained to build a solemn training environment.
5. Before approaching the Instructors or seniors, students must adjust their dobok and stand at attention until their presence is acknowledged.
6. Members must not leave the dojang without first seeking permission.
7. Members must ensure their dojang is neat and tidy at all times. Initiate others to assist by setting the example.
8. Members must not smoke or eat in the dojang.
9. Members should ensure that visitors are well attended to at all times. Give advice where neccessary.
10. Members shall address one another courteously and use titles, eg. Sir, Madam, Mr, Mrs, Miss.
DURING TRAINING
1. Lines must be formed during training according to seniority, starting from the right-hand side of the front line, then the second line, third line and so forth.
2. Training must be carried out in an orderly manner at all times.
3. Members must not raise any objection or arguments with the Instructor or members during training.
4. If any adjustments to the dobok's tidiness needs to be made, the student must stop, turn around and adjust.
5. If you are involved in any accident during training, stop whatever you are doing and give immediate attention to the situation.
6. Always show a willingness to learn. It is essential that all students are helpful, humble and courteous. Be appreciative of any assistance that is rendered.
7. Always try to build a safe environment and avoid injury.
8. When facing a training partner, always stand at attention and bow before and after each activity.
AFTER TRAINING
1. Show respect to your Instructor or Instructors, seniors and fellow members by bowing.
LEAVING THE DOJANG
1. Members must stand at the door and bow to the dojang or national flag before leaving.
DOBOK
1. The dobok must be worn with pride and treated with care and respect at all times.
2. Students are required to wear their correct belt and tie it in the proper manner. Wearing the correct belt is important as it is representative of the student's experience and seniority.
3. The dobok should not be worn outside the dojang with the exception of special occasions as specified by the Instructor.
VISITNG OTHER DOJANG
1. Students should seek the permission of their own Instructor and the Instructor of the other centre or organisation.
2. The rules of etiquette in the dojang apply to most other organisations. However, the visiting student must always assume the position of a junior and stand in line accordingly unless specifically asked by the Instructor to do otherwise.
3. During training always comply with the teaching instructions of that dojang and never criticise.
4. In situations where the Instructor invites your comments, humbly express your thoughts to the best of your knowledge and abilities and take care not to offend.
5. After the conclusion of the training session, you must always approach the Chief Instructor personally and thank him and the other members most sincerely.
VISITING INSTRUCTORS
1. Visiting Instructors from other clubs or organisations should only be invited to instruct with the consent of the highest authority, in our organisation - the President.
CRITICISING OUR OWN AND OTHER ARTS
1. Until one has studied martial arts at length and in depth, one is not in a position to criticise. Studying an art takes a lifetime !
ATTENDING OUTSIDE SEMINARS
1. Prior to attending outside seminars, it is necessary to seek permission from both your own Instructor, and that of the seminar organiser. Remember to never openly criticise but to act as an honourable representative of your organisation and display a good etiquette at all times.
2. If you wish to adopt some techniques learnt from the seminar, it is wise to discuss the matter with your Instructor and follow his knowledgeable advice.
