Square announces tons of new games which includes Final Fantasy XII for the Playstation 2 (PS2), remakes of FF7, 8 & 9 for the PS2, and a possibility of seeing FF4, 5 & 6 for the Game Boy Advance (GBA). This is additional to the already confirmed Final Fantasy titles for the Bandai Wonderswan. There are a total of 23 projects up for consideration.

Monolith, a subsidiary of Namco, announced during the Tokyo Game Show that their ultra secret RPG for the PS2 is none other than Xenosaga, a prequel to Xenogears. Before you say that 'I thought Square owns the rights to Xenogears', you are right indeed. The original director of Xenogears, Tetsuya Takahasha, is also working on this project. Minor changes may have to be made to thwart Square's lawyers.

SquareEA confirmed today that Final Fantasy Chronicles will be released in North America, July 19th. This collection will include Final Fantasy IV (II in Japan) and Chrono Trigger (hence the 'Chronicles' title). Both games will be enhanced with FMVs and Final Fantasy IV will be hard-type (the original uncensored version that was released previously in Japan). In addition, Gamespot reports today that Final Fantasy X may be delayed in North America until 'early 2002'. It is uncertain if this is true or not. In other news, two more words were added to the Enix's movie intro, 'are' and 'truly'. The current message says, "If you can figure what this is for, then you are truly ...."

Namco, Square and Enix announced that they will swap 5% of their stocks to offset development costs. The latest words in message on Enix's movie are 'worthy', 'of', 'the', 'title'. Currently, the message says, "If you can figure what this is for, then you are truly worthy of the title .... " The last few words could be 'Dragon' & 'Warrior'.

Enix officially announced today that Dragon Warrior 7 is being ported to the Playstation. The entire message in the teaser Flash file reads, "If you can figure what this is for, then you are truly worthy of the title, Dragon Warrior." No release date has been announced.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within should be available nationwide. It received two thumbs up. Famitsu gave Final Fantasy X a Platinum award, getting a 39 out of 40 rating. The game is scheduled to be released July 19th in Japan.

Final Fantasy Tactics has been rereleased but unfortunately the game is totally defective. It will not run on the PSX, PSOne or the PS2. If you purchased it, please make sure to get a refund. In other news, there is a preview of Dragon Warrior VII with many English screens at Gamespot. Lastly, Koei's new strategy RPG for the PSX, Saiyuki, has been delayed until mid-August so the game will get more exposure according to the GIA.

News from the Tokyo Game Show is starting to trickle in. Star Ocean 3 new subtitle is 'Till the End of Time'. The story will take place 400 years after Star Ocean 2 and will be fully 3D (e.g., 360 degrees). Sega announced that Skies of Arcadia will be ported for the PS2. And lastly Metal Gear Solid 2 shipped over 2 millions copies already for the PS2.

Working Designs announced Growlanser II & III for the PS2 strategy RPG library. Konami will release Metal Gear Solid 2 - Substance in 2003. The game will be a director cut version of MGS2-Son's of Liberty. Breath of Fire V was announced by Capcom and the story entails a exploration in a post-environmental disaster. Lastly, Wild Arms 3, Summoner 2, Suikoden 3, and Grandia Xtreme are confirmed for later release this year.

In a financial conference call today, Square of Japan confirmed two related Final Fantasy X related games - Rikku and Yuna version. It's unclear if they are spinoffs or the game told from each perspective, but the games will be released in Japan by the end of the year.

Namco has opened Xenosaga enhanced site. In addition, Squaresoft officially opens the new Final Fantasy Origins website. The game is for the PSOne and contains both Final Fantasy 1 (released on the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System) and Final Fantasy 2 (which was not previously released in North America). Both games will be enhanced graphically onto one CD-ROM, retailing for a MSRP of $29.99. Final Fantasy Origins will be released on April 8, 2003.

Tokyo-based video game publisher Enix Corporation (Enix) announced today that it will cease operations in North America as the establishment of a new company goes underway. The Seattle-based Enix America Inc. (Enix America), which handles the marketing and publishing of Enix products in North America, will close its offices, effective April 30, 2003. Enix America will continue to handle sales and customer service inquiries until the official office closure date. Enix will merge with Tokyo-based video game developer and publisher Square Co., Ltd. (Square) on April 1, 2003. The new company, headquartered in Tokyo, will be named Square Enix Co., Ltd. (Square Enix) and led by Yoichi Wada as president (current Square president), Yasuhiro Fukushima as chairman (current Enix chairman) and Keiji Honda as vice president (current Enix president). With this, Square Enix U.S.A., Inc. (Square Enix U.S.A.) will be established in Los Angeles, Calif., on April 1, 2003. Square Enix U.S.A. will handle the localization, marketing and publishing of Square Enix products in North America. In other gaming news, Dark Cloud 2 & Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter have already shipped to stores.

Konami today announced that the celebrated videogame franchise Castlevania will debut on the Sony PlayStation 2 in Fall 2003.
