Why Adopt A Shelter Ferret?

There are numerous reasons why to adopt a needing ferret from a shelter. It's a sad fact that every year, millions of ferrets are turned in to many ferret shelters across the country, and most are adopted into loving homes. Some ferrets rescue ferrets from horrible conditions which include poop piled sky-high, ferret covered with fleas, no food or water available, and in some cases, they find dead animals. :( When you adopt a needing ferret from a shelter, you giving him/her a second chance in life. Here are a list of benefits of adopting a ferret from a shelter as oppose to buying him or her from a pet store or breeder:

1. The feeling of doing something wonderful for an animal in need is pretty obvious!

2. Most shelters won't adopt out ferrets that have behavior or social problems until they are 'reformed'. Meaning that, they will work with the ferret to reduce the biting, litter habits, etc.

3. Most shelters know the ferrets very personally and they can usually very accurately identify the perfect ferret for your environment.

4. The ferret has shots and the adoption fee is always less than buying from a pet store and paying for shots/checkup yourself.

5. Using the above theory, you can get 2 for the price of 1! :)

6. Shelters are usually a lot of fun to visit. It is a blast being around 50 ferrets at one time! Well, at least coming from someone who only visits the shelter once a week or so to help out...

7. There are so, so many babies to chose from at shelters...

8. You will be amazed at the special bond and love you have for a shelter baby that comes in scared, skinny, afraid to trust and you watch him/her blossom into a vibrant, plump, outgoing fuzz ball who loves to chase you around and asks for hugs and kisses!

Those are the reasons why to adopt a ferret from a shelter! So if there is a ferret shelter/rescue in your area or state, check it out to see what's available.
